Two Proposals

So, my beloved proposed to me completely unexpectedly about a month ago (Dec.6).  Shortly thereafter, we were looking at possible wedding bands  and I asked her if she would like an engagement ring also (mostly because she wears next to no jewelry - just diamond studs in her ears).  After a bit of thought and discussion, she told me that I should pick one and just surprise her with it later.  That night, I went online and ordered the one I thought she'd spent the most time looking at and liked best in the store.  It finally arrived today - almost two and a half weeks later - and I have been jumping out of my skin all day!!  After dinner, I sat her in the same place in our living room that she sat me when she proposed... :-) ...she didn't get the connection and when I started telling her how much I loved her and how strong we had become by working together through hard times, she said she thought I was breaking up with her!!  I said "NO!" and pulled out the box and asked her if she would marry me.  Needless to say, I am all full of *squee* at the moment!  <3

Wondering how many couples had two proposals, or something like it?  I've noticed a trend on some of the other boards for "man-gagement" rings for the groom-to-be in heterosexual couples.  ::shrugs::  JC, really.

We didn't--but then again, neither of us was really big on the whole formal proposal thing.  I said something really articulate like, "So what would you think of the idea of getting married."  After she agreed, she asked if that meant we were now engaged, and I said yes.  Neither one of us wanted an engagement ring.

    We had two proposals too.

It was over Memorial Day weekend when I had been working feverously on our kitchen that we were remodeling, taking down wall paper and whatnot that the first proposal happened. After a long days work J said she'd take me out for dinner, anywhere I wanted. In retrospect had I known it was going to be a special occasion, I would have selected a better restaurant than Houlihan's! When we arrived back home from dinner I went out to walk the puppy. As I walked back to the house J was on the front lawn waiting with a single pink rose she picked from our garden. She brought me inside and told me she finally finished the present she had been working on for me and that she had to show it to me on the computer because she couldn't burn it onto a disc. I assumed it was a mix cd as she makes them for me from time to time, but it was a slide show of photos of us over the years set to "Make You Feel My Love" as sung by Adele. She said some sweet things and pulled a ring box out of her pocket and asked me to marry her. After a few "Are you serious?!?", I finally said "Yes!" About two months later we were getting ready to go down the shore with my family for the week. The day before I took J out to our favorite Italian restaurant by our old apartment. While we were out her best friend pick up flowers that I had ordered and set up some candles and my "Marry Me" playlist on my iPod I created. When we arrived home the house looked and smelled beautiful and lovely soft music was playing. After assuring J no one else was in the house, I told her how honored I am to be spending the rest of my life with her and gave her a ring that matches the one she gave me and asked her to marry me. Naturally she said yes : )

I am not sure if she is going to propose to me after i surprise propose to her on valentines day but we have talked about this over and over again. We want to be married to each other and we had talked about who was going to propose We decided she was going to after i new i was going to on valentines day i just talked about it to throw her off the scent. I want her to propose to me but i dont want her to think she has to. I believe it was sweet what you did. I have been use to the idea of having the 'male' propose but now that i am in love with a woman it flips everything. Very few people in my family are gay I am one in like a hundred so I have been raises believing in a prince charming but now i have a princess and i want her to know how much she means to me and how much i want to have this life with her and that is the only way i can think of doing it is by my proposing. You did good all in all Great Job. And congratulations

@AliciaKris - Thank you for your comments.  I agree that growing up in a world where all we see are boy-girl relationships/proposals/weddings, it can be more difficult for those of us not following that.  I also think that it gives us the opportunity to think about and act on things that are truly special to us and our loved ones instead of following a cookie-cutter routine.
Good luck on Valentine's Day!!  Keep us posted.

Awe how sweet! We did kind of a mutual proposal.
We were laying in bed one morning drinking juice and coffee and she said, "So, there's something I've kind of wanted to talk to you about."
And then she just stopped talking (really shy)
So I said, "If you don't ask, I will."
She smiled and quietly asked if I would marry her.

    Rings came later.

Aw Now I want to ask my fiance to marry me :)

My love asked me at the place we met. Got down on one knee and everything. I cried. I'm so excited for the wedding!

I enjoyed reading everyones stories :) they are all very sweet! Well I proposed to my fiancé at Rosario Beach (1st time me taking her to that place) on our 2 yr anniversary. We hiked up a lil hill when we got to the top I wanted to take lots of pics and get it on video. So being that it was just us two and our doggies it was hard to place the camera on the right place. I finally got the camera inplace :) and I was so nervice! But by this time it was starting to rain and my honey was getting cold and wanted to leave. I told her, wait just give me a minute. I stared to tell her how much I loved her and how happy she makes me. (But since I wear really skinny jeans, I had to get the ring from our bag that was about five feet away) When was ready to give her the ring I walked away and if you guys could see the video, the look on her face was priceless. I walked back to her I got down on one knee, I was crying, she was crying and after a few deep breaths I asked her if she would marry me. She said yes! :) It was such an amazing feeling! Then 6 days later, we went out to dinner for my bday. And on our the ride back home I guess I feel a sleep. When I woke up we were driving into a view point (the 1st place we went to when we reconnected) I had a feeling that she was up to something. We got out of the car and walked to the view point spot and she got down on one knee and asked me to marry her :) of course I said Yes!! We both had talked about getting married and we both wanted to propose. So playing around we would say well let's see who does it first! :) For us it was something that we both wanted to do so it worked out great!! ~Fabi~
