hair stylists that work with various types of hair - a multi ethnic bride

Hi all,

I am having a wedding in Northern NJ (Morristown).  I have extremely curly and thick hair.  I have contacted a hair and makeup vendor and they initially said that they work with my type of hair but it is recommended that I get it straightened 2 days before so it would be easier for them to do my hair on the wedding day. Its not worth it for me to do this since she was charging me the same $150 to do my hair even though someone else did the majority of the work.  I would like to know if other multi ethnic brides have found a great hairstylist/make up artist to recommend that will do everything on the day of your wedding for a reasonable price.  I am hoping that they travel to you rather than you travel to them.  But would be willing to travel if its close by.  Please help!

  • I haven't gotten that far in my planning yet but I have very curly "hard to work with hair" and I have had my hair straightened every time I've ever had an up do or whatever for weddings. At least for me, I've heard "dirty" hair is easier. Also, running a straightener thru it the day that u will probably want to add some curl too, makes it even more difficult. Definitely use someone u are comfortable with, but don't be surprised if this is recommended by others as well. Maybe ask if they will straighten it 2 days before??

  • My MUA has experience working with all different types of hair including very thick & curly Hispanic and African American hair. My hair isn't as thick, so I was told to just wash it the night before, that way it has a little oil in it & can hold the curls. Here is her website: http://www.wix.com/mlorefic/mslooks
  • Thanks for the advice and the recommendations!  Its so very much appreciated :-)
