Has anyone seen this ring?

My fiance and I were at the Bridgewater Mall this weekend and decided to stop into Kay Jewelers really fast just to find out his ring size and to figure out what style of ring he might be interested in.  As luck would have it, he found a ring that he LOVES that he can't stop talking about... it's this one:  http://www.kay.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product1|10101|10001|-1|7618370499|15051|15051.15058.15114

It's $450, which definitely isn't a bad price, but has anyone seen this ring at any other stores for an even lower price?  We're not trying to be cheapskates, but if we can find it for less, that would be a nice little surprise!  Also, has anyone purchased a wedding ring at Kay?  How are they regarding resizing, customer service, etc?

We bought FI's ring at The Jewelry Exchange in Edgewater. There were several booths and they all had a lot of different styles to pick from.

FI was only interested in a plain silver-colored ring, so we didn't pay much attention to yellow gold or patterned bands, but I'm pretty sure that they had rings in styles similar to this one. So maybe browse around there, or ask if someone knows a good jewelry store closer to where you're willing to travel to.

I would print out a picture of it and bring it to other jewelry stores.  I feel like chain mall stores are always a rip off.

That does seem like a lot of money for a guy's ring.  Ours was a titanium ring off the internet for $80, so that was nice!  I would just troll the internet for awhile and see if you can find it elsewhere (or something similar).

Haha my FI wants a Titanium ring with a Carbon Fiber inlay...men!  I am also going to be getting him a gold ring as well.  Titanium can not be resized so I want him to have a ring he can always wear even if his ring size changes.  I also know two people that had to get their Titanium ring CUT OFF!  OUCH!  Anyway,  I agree the pp above, chain mall places always charge more.  I would check out a Jewelry Exchange, you may be able to find something similar for less.

    Similar but 1mm thinner:

6mm like the one your FI saw:

As others have said, definitely look in some jewelry "outlets' where there are multiple vendors.

We bought at Jewelry Exchange, Rt. 46, Wayne; there is also the Dimaond Exchange on Rt. 46 in Wayne as well... not sure how convenient that is for you.

$450 is a decent price for 14K gold.  Don't forget gold is currently selling for over 1,000 dollars an ounce just for the material.  You can't compare gold to titanium, the metal itself costs between 5 and 100 dollars per pound depending on purity.

It is true that you can't get titanium resized, but they are so inexpensive, you can buy 2-3 rings in different sizes if that concerns you.  Also, some places offer lifetime replacement if you need another size for a 25 dollar fee (the kicker is that the 25 dollar fee probably covers the cost of the ring, markup is HUGE).

That being said, with all due respect, I have not seen any guy wear a yellow gold ring that hasn't been married for at least 10 years +.

Thanks for all the great advice!  I'll definitely keep shopping around!

USER876 - I get what you're saying about yellow gold being out of fashion, but FI has a gold ring that was passed down from his grandfather that he ALWAYS wears (his grandfather took the role of his father when FI was growing up).  He wears the gold ring on his right hand and a silver watch on his left wrist, so he decided he wants something that has both colors (silver and gold) as his wedding ring.  It looks wonderful on him and, ultimately, it's his choice.  I sure hope no one looks at his wedding ring and judges him based on what style of ring he chose.

I have a friend at work that has a really expensive 2 tone watch so did the same, but his has more silver than gold.  What ever the case, he can always get the rings rhodium dipped if he likes the silver look better, it's an inexpensive process.  I am sure no one is judging your FI for the ring he wears, maybe he'll bring the style back!

Anything you see in those kinds of stores you can get anywhere.  As someone else mentioned, I would print out a picture and bring it somewhere else, to see what they can do about the price.  Majority of places if they don't have it, they can get it.

I would recommend a Jewelry Exchange.  That's where my FI got my ring and we will be getting our wedding bands.  We used the one in Woodbridge.

Thanks again for the advice everyone!  I'll definitely be going to some jewelry exchange stores.  Honestly, I must be living in a hole, because I've never even heard of them before... the things you learn when you're a bride-to-be!  :-)
