Starting to have dress regret

So, all of all sudden I am starting to have dress regret. I'm sure I'm just over thinking, but I am really starting to stress out about it, even waking up in the middle of the night. I have loved my dress, it was the first and only dress I tried on.  I have my alterations appointment on February 2nd.  I have an idea of what I want to do.  I'm thinking about taking a layer off tulle out, and making it more of a mermaid style and possibly thinning the straps.  I drew on the picture of I am thinking. Am I just over thinking everything?

Re: Starting to have dress regret

  • Can I ask the last time you tried it on? I was starting to have serious panic about my dress and then I went to "visit" it when it came in. I started crying I was so happy. So...while I'm not saying you shouldn't change it, maybe don't settle on anything until you try it on again and see how you feel in it.
  • I ditto trying it on again.

BUT, I can envision what you're thinking and I think it'd be absolutely beautiful too.
  • I can relate. I had dress regret and took the plunge and bought a new dress. My first dress was the first one I tried on too and it was really pretty but it was so early on in my engagement and I bought it for the wrong reasons - I really should have waited or thought it through a little longer.  Buying a new dress is so not a smart move financially and I do mildly regret the extra cost now however I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new dress and so overall, I'm glad I made the switch.

For what's it worth, I agree put it on again and 'jack' yourself up with all the accessories.  That alone may calm your woes.  I think its a beautiful dress. I love lace shoulders and the cinched waist.  You look really pretty!  If you aren't happy though talk to a good seemstress about your options.

  • Thank you everyone! I haven't tried my dress on since July, when I picked it up which could be a reason why I'm stressing out. I will try it on sometime this weekend. I'm sure that will help stress.

You dress is beautiful, and it looks great. I agree with PP, try it on and jack yourself up! Also, can you try a mermaid slip to help give it the shape you want?

  • Are you putting too much pressure on a dress to make you happy and be perfect? It's a dress, not a magic wand.
  • You know, when I went dress shopping, I thought I'd end up with a lace mermaid because I loved the look on other people.  When I tried those dresses on, I didn't love the look on me.  I had tried on about 30 dresses when I chose mine but that's only because I was shopping at other stores with other people to appease them and have a little fun before I settled with "the one"(wow, that sounds simliar to my pre-FI dating life).  Everytime I put my dress on, I am totally reassured that it was the best choice for my body, budget and overall happiness.  Try to be patient until you can spend a little time with the one(dress) you really love again ;-)
  • I love that dress, it is so beautiful! That was almost my dress! I would try not to think about it until you actually have your fitting. Go in with an open mind and if you still feel iffy about it after trying it on, talk to the seamstress about altering it in the ways you want. If you go in immediately wanting it to be changed you won't see the dress in it's true form!

  • So an update... I tried my dress on yesterday and feel in love with it again! Thanks for the advice everyone! I may still do the alterations that I talked about, but I am going to talk to my seamstress first.  Thanks everyone! :)
