Unresponsive DJ

FI and I sent out our DJ contract and deposit on 06/11.

I called the DJ on 06/18 to verify if he had received the contract & deposit however he advised me that he only goes to his lockbox once a week, so he hasn't received it to date.

He called 06/19 to tell me that he received everything and that he should be sending me an email within a few days with website login and password information (where we can set up song list & make additional payments). By 06/22, neither of us had received an email as we were told.

I had FI check his bank account to see if the check had cleared and it was showing to have been cashed 06/21. I decided I'd give him a little more time thinking maybe he was waiting for the check to clear.

We still haven't received a response from the DJ. I called 07/02 to follow up and find out when we can expect the information in our email however received the DJ's voicemail (was polite - did not flip out or anything). I have not received a call back.

I'm going to send a follow up email on 07/05.

I'm trying to be patient this week as this is a holiday week & he may be on vacation, but at the same time he should have sent this information 2 weeks ago.

How long should I give the DJ to respond to my follow up email? If he does not respond, what is the next appropriate step?

He was very responsive in the beginning, but now that he has us locked in and has our $200, he's unresponsive.

Suggestions on how to further handle? Do I just need to relax and give him more time?

  • Especially because you have so much time I wouldn't worry about it. I am just now getting the music info to my DJ.

  • While it's true that you have plenty of time to do your planning, the fact of the matter remains that it is pretty unprofessional of him to not respond to you promptly for any inquiry at all.  Being responsive is important, especially the closer you get to your wedding.  How responsive is he going to be with last-minute changes or questions?

If this continues to be an issue right now, and he doesn't give a satisfactory answer for not respsonding sooner when you speak to him, my advice would be to simply take control of the communications and not wait for him.  Reach out to him to finalize your details and go over your music selections, timeline, and itinerary about two months prior to the date.  I usually do this a month out with my clients to make sure we have adequate time for me to deliver a written itinerary, have my client approve it and make any changes, etc.  At that point there are no questions or surprises, and they can cross me off their list of things to worry about because they know their DJ is "done" and ready to go.

Just stay on top of things, and make sure you do your final planning early enough that it isn't hampered by his lack of response.Hope this helps.
