Getting in Shape

Hmm I never would have guessed you knew that...

Hey everyone I really have to get this off my chest and mind. I work at a movie theater part time and I am a tad over weight. Well I was closing up last night when a older lady came down and asked for refills. I obliged and went about refilling her popcorn when the time came to refill her drink I asked her what she was drinking and she replied diet coke and asked if I could give her fresh ice because any diet drink tastes horrible watered down. Which it common knowledge and my experience that it does. She gave me one of those smiles and said "Hmm I never would have guessed you knew that" It took me everything I had not to throw her drink at her or say something really mean. I felt so freaking bad about myself I am by no means fat I am over weight and was appalled that someone of that age would say something like that.

  • Or she said that because she thinks it's some wisdom that younger people don't know yet and only her and heer older group or in the know about it.

Don't be down on yourself.  It could have had nothikng to do with weight.  I find that overweight people (those who identify as overweight anyway) often hear insults when none are intended.  It's a self-esteem thing.  Sure, they're are some jerks out there but why choose to believe the worst?

    Chin up!
  • yeeeah.. you may be overthinking this one..

Don't let this eat you up. Really and truly. We have no idea how she meant that, and even if she meant it in a rude and demeaning way, she doesn't know you, your life, and your heart.
Her comments are not worth your hurt. Promise. :)
  • Some people are just rude! I work at a movie theatre part time too! I think we get some of the craziest people through our doors, it's like common courtesy just goes straight out the window. One time (I witnessed it, it happened) a guest said to my coworker (who was quite overweight) "I bet you would just eat all the popcorn off of the floor, wouldn't you?" We were all just like Surprised

People are rude. But you just have to remember that their opinions don't matter, and they're just trying to make themselves feel better by making you feel worse. One day they'll realize that no matter how much they hurt someone else it will never make them hurt less.

  • People are extremely rude when it comes to that type of stuff. We work with what they are eating and drinking so doing something to that is well easy. I am never ever saying I would do that I am more mature than that but, some people aren't. We clean out our warmers and dump popcorn and we had a huge bag full and my boss whom is overweight was  carrying it to throw it away and these teenage kids where like don't forget the butter. She was pissed so were the rest of us. People believe because we work at the movies which is usually minimum wage we don't have dignity but, we do and it hurts when people say stuff like that and they expect us to take it.
