My FI and spent some time today going over our venue's menu options and picking selections for the tasting. He's a rather picky eater, which I've gotten used to over the time we've known each other, but it really came to the forefront during this process because the menu featured items with complex lists of ingredients. He automatically said no to anything that had even a hint of fruit in it, no matter how delicious it sounded otherwise. He even red-lighted a goat cheese appetizer, though goat cheese is his favorite, because it came with a raspberry vinagrette. He almost did the same to a molten chocolate cake that was topped with berries. Which is when I turned to him and blurted, "Well, aren't you being the fruit police today!"
I think I offended him at first, and then he laughed. He admits to having an extreme dislike to anything with fruit flavoring. The only fruits he actually likes are oranges and clementines - he avoids everything else. I'm not on a mission to convert him into being a fruit connoisseur, but it'd be nice if he could tolerate a little more variety - especially when we're eating out and a lovely, sophisticated place offers a menu item with fruit garnish or dressing, sauce or gravy with a hint of a fruit flavor.
He used to have an equal dislike of all vegetables, and I'm slowly chipping away at that - he used to stare at side salads like they were crawling piles of bugs on the plate, and now he's even ordered salad a few times instead of the soup option. So there's that.
What food items are you avoiding on your menu? Which of you is pickier?
