affordable photographer/videographer in KC

Hi Friends,

So i've spent the entire day searching for an affordable photographer/ videographer and I just want to rip my hair out. I think the main problem is that I don't know how much is too much when it comes to photos and videos.. but I also know that these imagines will hopefully last a lifetime so I want them to be good.

At this point I'm wanting to keep it at around 2800 if possible. I'm starting to wonder if maybe I just shouldn't have a videographer.. But I'd be sad to cut that.

Can anyone give me good recommendations, experience from their wedding or, more so, what range they are spending for pictures. I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: affordable photographer/videographer in KC

  • Hi, I'm not sure how helpful my answer will be. My future brother-in-law-in-law (my fiance's sister's fiancé!) will hopefully do videography for us since he works with video editing for a living. But maybe my recommendation for photography will help. I'm not sure what price range you're looking at, but the quality you get for your money with DiMartino Photography is great. I haven't actually gotten in touch with them yet as my vendor, but they're the ones I want. They use Canon L-series lenses (cream of the crop!), specialize in low-light photography and have had their work published many times. I've looked at many other KC photographer's websites that I don't believe shoot as good of photos, and they're much more expensive than DiMartino. Can you tell that photography is one of my hobbies?!
  • From my experiences of looking around, 2800 is about what you'll spend for quality photography alone. I have had to sacrifice videography for my wedding due to budget reasons. However, after speaking with many married couples that did pay for videography, most of them say that they have never even watched their wedding video.
  • For photographers try Real Deal photography.  Their prices are well under 2,800.  They are great photographers they just told me that part of their business plan is to be significantly cheaper than most of the competition.
  • My photographer is Sarah Dickerson and she is great so far.  The package she has online can be adjuested a little bit and the second person can be dropped, so you might want to check her out!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Check out Corner Stone photography.  They were one of the photographers I looked into, but didn't end up going with.  I know they do video as well.  Maybe I should have chose them because I'm not a huge fan of my photographer....
  • We did not do a videographer so I can't help you with that. However, I was in the same boat with you about photographer! They were all so expensive and I talked to several people who paid A LOT of money and didn't like their pictures!! We went with a man named Jim Powers. He actually won an award on TheKnot for being a great/affordable wedding photographer a few years back. He was FANTASTIC!! and SOOOOOO cheap!! Check him out:

He was so fun and easy to work with!  We had 2 photographers and spent half of what a lot of people pay and are incredibly happy with our wedding pictures!
  • We are using Scott Thomas Photography, which is very reasonable.

  • $2800 would be more than enough if you go through with these 2 vendors:

Photographer: Melissa Lin Ellis Photography, 816-352-3283,  melissa@melissalinellis.com, http://melissalinellis.com

    Videographer: Nouvelle Productions, 760-583-2440, NouvelleProductions@gmail.com, http://Vimeo.com/NouvelleProductions

I am using both and spending about $1900 total for 6 hours w/ 2 photographers and a full day of videography. Plus, their work is amazing!

    Best of luck!

  • Look at Jim Powers (Powershots). His package is extreamly well priced and he is a talented photographer. The catch is that he doesn't do prints. He takes the photos, edits them and sends you the discs with copyright release. This was the perfect package for us because we didn't need the frills of a book or prints or anything. Thanks to technology, it's much easier, IMO, to use the discs to create your own photobooks and the like.

  • We're using Jesse Blacklaw Photography (http://jesseblacklawphotography.zenfolio.com/). VERY reasonable. She worked with us to stay in our budget.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • I used Hamilton Video and Photography for both of mine. It ended up being around $1600 for both combined and he was very good. Included plenty of DVDs of the video, a CD of all the edited pictures, an engagement session, and all day wedding coverage.

He was easy to contact but does live far away. I think he said 2 or 3 hours but still didn't charge me for travel.

  • we are choosing Michelle Jones ' SweetTeaStudio in the rivermarket.  She had a package for around 3k for photo and video.
