  They should be. I would stop in at a jeweler and get sized first.

  The short answer... for U.S. sizing, technically yes, it should be standard.  The long answer, no it's not.  First of all, different countries use different sizing scales, so depending on where you get your ring from, the sizing may be slightly different or completely different numbers.  Also, if a jeweler is sizing a ring for you, it really depends on how often they have their ring mandrel calibrated.  Most likely though, you won't notice a difference in minute differences in sizing assuming that they are all using the U.S. scale.
  
  You really should go to a jeweler and have them size your/FI's finger.  Knowing the size you wear really is determined from various factors.  For example, if the ring sizer is a thin width, it's really only good for sizing a ring of a similar width.  The wider the band, the less accurate the sizing will be.  I use two sets of sizers, a thin one, which is good for most women's engagement rings and a thicker one that is good for thicker bands.  The wider the ring, the larger the size you will need.  Basically because it's harder to fit over the knuckle.  So, depending on how wide the ring is that you're looking to buy, the size may vary... the fit may also vary slightly depending on whether your hands are cold or warm, and whether you fingers swell a lot.  That's the long answer! lol!
  
  Bottom line, if you have time, go have a professional size you.  I don't know what the template is like that Blue Nile provides, but in general those plastic sizers or diagrams aren't the best thing to go by.  The jeweler should know the right questions to ask about your fingers/hands, what type of ring, etc and can really help you choose the appropriate size.  Even if you're not buying a ring from them, they shouldn't give you a hard time about sizing you.... at least it doesn't bother me when I have people come in for that.

  I got my e-ring from blue nile and have that same size template thing you do.  I got my e-ring resized at a local jewler (because I didn't want to mail it to blue nile) and I compared them and they are exactly the same.
