Marriage License in Rockland??

For Ladies married in Rockland - did you guys need anything else other than your Drivers license to obtain your Marriage License?

I checked the Orange County webste yesterday and it says that you need:

- Birth Certificate and passport or Drivers license and Social Security number with you

Birth Certificate AND passport? this is the first time I see it.

And what do immigrants bring if they do not have a SS card yet? I do have it but I hate it leaving home. It's hidden where it would not be found...

In Brooklyn, you can come in with a Drivers License and you are all set.

    From the NYS health dept:

    Proof of Age and Identity

A person is required to establish proof of age and identity by submitting to the issuing clerk one of the following age related documents:

    1. Birth Certificate
    2. Baptismal record
    3. Naturalization record
    4. Census record

And one of the following identity related documents:

    1. Driver's license
    2. Passport
    3. Employment picture ID
    4. Immigration record

Therefore you need your birth certificate and drivers license or passport.

NYC has their own City Clerk who only needs one of the following:
    • Driver License with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
    • Non-Driver Identification Card with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
    • Learner Permit with photograph (from the United States of America or any of its territories)
    • Active United States Military Identification Card
    • Passport
    • United States Certificate of Naturalization (good for 10 years after date of issue)
    • United States Alien Registration Card
    • United States Employment Authorization Card

Ha ha - Naturalization record??? They are not getting this from me :) I am a foreigner here on a visa...

I wonder why if you live in Brooklyn, or Manhattan, you are good with just a drivers license.

NYC has it's own City Clerk, which has different rules for getting a marriage license than the rest of the state. Why - who knows. You can get a marriage license anywhere in NYS, and you can use that license anywhere in the state, so I don't know why the requirements are different.

That said, and forgive my ignorance, but do you have a birth certificate from where you were born? They only need that as proof of your age.

Just an FYI- my birth certificate is ripped, but taped together and I called them about it after watching an episode of bridezillas where they wouldnt accept a ripped birth certificate, and its true- they wont accept it.  I had to call and order a certified copy!!  Must be a way of making money!

So, I may have a birth certificate somewhere, translated, but I doubt I would be able to find it, because it's at my parents. I have my passport, shouldn't that be a proof of age?

I called the monsignor today and he said that if they give us a hard time in Orangetown, to go to City Hall in the city. He will accept any marriage license.

And you can't just use any translation. It needs to be an "official" translation. In other words, you or a friend couldn't just translate it.

A passport is listed as proof of identity, not age, so they shouldn't take it in place of a birth certificate. If you can, just go in the city. Like I said, you can get a license anywhere in the state and use it anywhere.

I went to New City last week.  Just bring your birth certificate and a passport or license.  If you are born outside of the US and its a copy, they probably won't even know the difference.   Don't sweat it.
