VENUE Help!!!!

Hi Ladies!

So here's the deal: I'm originally from Hawaii, born and raised, and most of my family lives there or is on the west coast. FH's family is all located on the eastern side of the country (NC, GA, FL, SC etc). We currently live in CA, so if we had the wedding here, everyone in both our families would have to travel, but it's pretty much the middle ground. I have been having issues with finding a venue that makes me happy anywhere in the entire state of California, so I've decided that I want to get married in Hawaii instead. But I'm not a CA native, so perhaps there are venues my internet searches have missed? Can anyone recommend a venue that might rival, out-shine, or be just as good as a beach front wedding in a 4 star hotel in Waikiki? A tiny little part of me feels bad that FH's entire family would have to travel super far for a wedding in Hawaii, and a lot less people from his side would be able to attend the wedding. But at the same time, my family is paying for the wedding...

In any case, I would be totally open to considering CA venues that could rival my Hawaiian wedding on the beach at sunset!!! I'm planning for June 30, 2012 and I would love a waterfront venue, but I know at lot of areas in CA are plagued by fog in June... :(

Please help!!!

Thanks!

Uh, not sure how to vote since my answer would be to follow your heart and do what you want to do.

I know it doesn't seem fair for only his fam to travel, but there are other circumstances to consider... like you said, your fam is paying, your preferences and dreams, Fi's preferences, weather, etc.

I think maybe you know what you ultimately want and looking for approval.  I'd be the same way, but honestly, you gotta follow your heart!!!!  GL!

What is your budget for the wedding?

Check out Taglyan Ballroom in Hollywood:

    http://www.taglyancomplex.com/index2.php

We are having our wedding this Nov.....basically you are getting a 5 star hotel venue and food quality...at a 4 star price tag.  This venue was featured on the David Tutera's My Fair Wedding show.....FI and I were so happy to find this place, and known someone who went to a wedding there and had so much to say about the food, the service, the "wow" factor.

And if you want an oceanfront ceremony, you can consider having your ceremony at a state beach.....and then head over for reception.....

    hope it helps!

I'm not sure where you've looked or what your budget is-or even how far you're willing to travel in Cali...But since you mentioned about wanting something to rival a "four star hotel in Waikiki" there are a number of beachfront settings out here that would be just as lovely.  In L.A. County, check out the following: Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, Shutters on the Beach, Marriott Marina del Rey, Ritz Carlton Marina Del Rey, Fairmont Miramar, Hotel Casa Del Mar, Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club...the possibilities are almost endless.  If you yearn for something with the aloha spirit, try Duke's of Malibu, a Hawaiian themed restaurant on the beach.  If you're willing to travel further, try Bali Hai restaurant in San Diego. Btw, June fog here usually clears by late noon so you could still enjoy a beautiful sunset ceremony on the beach. Good luck!

The cost for both families to travel will be about the same to come here I would assume. For Hawaiians to go to the east coast it would certainly cost a fortune and vice versa. Having a wedding which involves an expensive 15 hour flight for anyone is going to drastically cut down your guest list. This may or may not be a good thing. Put yourself in his schoes and his family's shoes and think about how your family would react from Hawaii knowing they might have to travel that far east. Either way it looks like someone is going to have to make a compromise. I still vote for meeting half way in California. I know YOU would be making a small compromise but it would allow you to spend such a special day with all your loved ones. There has got to be some place around here that will work, no? Thousands of brides get married in California every year and there are plenty of oceanview venues. Have you checked out just north of Los Angeles or maybe even up the coast a bit further say to Santa Barbara? Some CSA farms and wineries are now doing weddings and they are so pretty.
