Modern/Unique Michigan Buildings

Hey all! I am recently engaged and planning my wedding for October 2013. Right now, I'm starting my search for a ceremony sit, a reception site, or one that can doublr as both!

Specifically, I am looking for any super modern/technological/artistic/contemporary crazy looking spaces in the Metro Detroit area (but I'm willing to travel!). The closest I've come so far is the Atrium at the Max M. Fisher Music Center.

Dpes anyone know of any crazy modern spaces for either ceremony or reception?? All suggestions welcome!

Welcome to the board and congrats on your engagement.

At the top of the board there is a pushpin topic with vendor info, reviews, pricing, etc. That's a good place to start.

There is the atrium in the "Wintergarden" of the RenCen, I'm sure other brides will have more suggestions.

This link takes you to a blog that a local bride made with all the info on her venue search. Pretty inclusive:

  • I believe the modern art musuem in Detroit rents the space for events - might want to check into that?

  • Cranbrook is a very cool artistic space - not a modern glass and metal design - but one of the most spectacular architectural places around.

Yup, I was going to say the MOCAD too museum of modern art Detroit I have seen people do some cool things with the space in magazines and online. It isn't sleek, white or glass though if that's what our looking for..it's more urban and warehouselike. I think there are some other loft saves you can rent downtown, maybe it's called loft 44 I really can't remember. I don't know if grand rapids is a possibility or not, but they have a museum that I've seen in a bunch of magazines. Also, how many people are you looking to have, you might have better luck finding something like a restaurant with a smaller guest count.
