timing and vendor suggestions needed for the wedding day

Hey Ladies
I recently decided to make some changes to the timeline and events for the day of my wedding. I am now going to be getting ready at my house in Branford, CT rather than the hotel in Middletown and I am very excited that we are going to be doing a first look! So this means I need to make so adjustments in vendors and timing and such.

Any feedback/suggestions for hair salons in the Branford area would be very helpful! I had originally been looking at Larissa Lake, but they are not very close to my house (so the travel fee would be a lot) and I would prefer to find someone most reasonably priced anyways. I would also prefer someone who will travel to my house since our makeup artist will already be coming to us.

While I'm very happy with the change in plans, this now means we need transportation from my house to our first look (Lyman Orchard)  and then to the venue, St. Clements Castle in Portland, CT.  Is it best for us girls to take a limo? Any suggestions on budget friendly transportation services?

And of course all this affects the timing of the day! How early do I need to start hair/makeup?  9am?? Our ceremony is at 5pm. So I was thinking the first look should be around 230? which means we need a pick up time of around 130/145 to allow for travel time from Branford to Lyman Orchard?  Is 230 for the first look a good time? I was thinking if we leave the first look at 4 and get to the venue by 430? Thoughts? Feedback :)
And then what about the guys? Does it make sense for them to get picked up from the hotel?? So many details and logistics to figure out!!

Thanks!
Marissa

Re: timing and vendor suggestions needed for the wedding day

  • We are using Lindsey Limo, not the cheapest but the best reviews I've found.  My planner suggested that we start on make up an hour earlier than I planned cause my girls might be late or things might take longer.  Since I am having a trial, I am not worried but I know my girls might take longer.   I don't have my final timeline yet and I can't share how much time you need to leave yet but I am sure you can figure it out or hire someone to help Laughing

  • I used Lauren from Dana Bartone & Co. for hair and loved her! She did an amazing job with me and my girls. For hair and makeup, it took about 5 hours for 6 of us. We also used Lindsey limousine for transportation.

  • thanks, I'm going to look into them.
  • We got married at 6:30pm (ceremony time). Our first look was at 3pm. We started hair appointments at 9am for 7 of us (3 bridesmaids, 2 moms, 1 SIL and myself). We finished by 11:30ish and got some lunch, then my makeup started at 1pm. Girls did their own makeup. We got dressed around 2-2:30 ish and out the door.

It seems like a long day, but it was very relaxed since we had SO much time and weren't rushing. My bridesmaids were able to just sit in the hotel room and chat while I was getting my makeup done.  I highly suggest using a longer time period if it works for everyone's schedule.
