in African American Weddings
So I met with my classmate today who builds web sites for work and on the side, and we created one for our wedding!  I'm really excited, and want to make sure I'm not leaving anything off.  So this is the web site the guests will go to for more info and to RSVP (we're not including paper RSVP cards, only the web site and a phone number).

Am I missing anything else?  I'm using the Wordpress blog system, b/c my friend recommended it.  It's been really easy to use so far although I'm mad b/c it's asking me to upgrade if I want to put a mp3 file on the site.  Grrr!

    @ Desi: this is for my guests.  I'm going to include the web site in my save-the-dates that go out this June/July.  

    @ Tys: yeah I was really happy he agreed to do it (at no charge!).  But honestly I'm using a template so if you have different templates on the system you're using you can probably jazz it up.  Also, I will add that Guest Book - thanks!!!

    I had to check out my wedding website right quick.  Yeah, I think you covered it all.  I would add a guestbook like Tyswife2b suggested.  Also, it may be nice to add a photo gallery too.  I'm so excited for you!  Now all you need to do is create that planning bio ;)

    @ Tamtam: Thanks for checking!  I like the photo gallery idea, I'll having to start looking through photos to see which ones I'd like to include.  This is giving me a GREAT baseline for the planning bio, so that should be up soon (no promises, but I hope to have it going in the next couple of weeks!).  

    @ Desi : That's so cool that we're both sending Save the Dates at the same time.  Are yours done?  If so, can you post a pic?  My friend is a graphic designer and he's designing all of our invites, STDs, programs, menus, etc. so I haven't seen his design ideas yet.

    Am I behind? I planned on sending my save-the-dates out in September for my March wedding. I am having a hard time keeping up with when to do what.

    From what I've read, the typical timeframe for sending STDs is about one year in advance if you're going to have a lot of people flying/driving in from out of town.  More of a courtesy to give them as much time as possible to plan the trip.  However, I don't necessarily think 7 months out is bad - are you having lots of OOT guests or mostly local?

    What about a page to include "the proposal". 

    As far as Save the date cards, I look at ours everyday..I hope to mail them by teh end of April for our October wedding.  We also placed our weddign website on the cards.  Now, if we can just complete the site.

    I wish I had known the year thing...I read somewhere that it was a year for DW weddings and six months for "local" weddings. Very few of my guests are local, but 90% or more are in-state within 2-3 hours of driving distance in whichever direction and about half are within an hour's drive. We are actually getting married in the center of the state for that very reason.

    I guess I need to move my date up and send them out in June. It still wouldn't be a year, but our pictures aren't until May 8th. Thank you ladies for the heads up. I thought I was on top of things. I just received a save-the-date a couple of weeks ago for a wedding this June!

    I need to pick some colors and get this guest list together now I guess...
