Comfy High Heels Please!!

Why is it so impossible to find a pair of pretty, comfortable high heels for my small 5 1/2 shoe size feet that don't cost almost as much as my dress?
I ordered 7 different pairs from Zappos, all of which I'm about to return because I don't want to go to the emergency room with a sprained ankle on my wedding day.. searched and searched online... found out about Angela Nuran so I thought, finally, a light!
I went into Kleinfeld yesterday and tried on the Angela Nuran... they were cute, more comfortable than most, but still a bit wobbly for me. and at close to $300, I don't want to just settle for ok. I saw a pair of Filippa Scott that were super cute and has lots of cushioning as well but Kleinfeld didn't have it in my size. So I went on an adventure around Manhattan to search for just the right pair of Filippa Scott!
Getting close right? Not exactly...
The smallest size they make, it turns out, is 5 1/2 which feels more like a 6 and are too big! So now I'm back to square 1.
Any thoughts, fellow brides? Note: My fiance is 6'2 and I'm 5' on my best days. So mid heels or flats just won't do. Also note: I tried on a pair of 4 inch platform Jimmy Choos at Kleinfeld and they have been THE most comfortable and natural feeling shoes thusfar!!! But $500+!?! I just can't bring myself to do it!
Help please!

Re: Comfy High Heels Please!!

  • I'm just doing 2" heels because of this. My fiance is a foot taller than me too - he's 6'5". I'm also shorter than the MOH (5'7") and my bridesmaid (5'11"). I'm way more concerned with being comfy than pretending to be taller!
  • Have you tried looking at less expensive shoe stores?  I don't know what color you are looking for (I know white isn't in a lot of regular stores), but there are many options.  I actually decided to wear hot pink shoes with my white dress cause I really didn't see many white shoes I liked and I love the look with the color popping out.  I got my shoes at Nine West for about $50, and they are a 3 1/2" heel.  I also got my BMs shoes from there.  I wear tons of Nine West heels and they are really comfortable to me, and super affordable.  I know I'm a very low key bride, but that is a ton of money to be spending on shoes that most people won't see, let alone know the designer to appreciate you paying that much.  My best advice for you would be to find a pair of heels that you could wear at least through the ceremony and pictures, and then have a much more comfortable pair for the reception.  Even though mine are super comfortable, I have no intention of staying in heels all night.

I wore Cole Haan heels.  They were about 2 1/2 " high and really weren't bad to wear all night. (I only wear flip-flops or running shoes.  So when I say they weren't bad, I really mean it.)

ETA: I purchased them at DSW for just over $100.

  • I tried on a couple pair of 4" wedges at David's Bridal in the $60 range that were very comfortable. I'm not sure what sizes they come in though.

  • Go to a theatrical or dance supply store and check out ballroom dance shoes... they come in an array of fabulous styles, heel heights and colors, and since they are actually built for dancing they are much more supportive, flexible and comfortable than regular heels.

Living near NYC you should have access to tons of stores.

I bought these (Freed of London, style: Holly) and had them dyed (but the insole wouldn't dye properly so I had to color it in with a Sharpie, heh):

Call Angela Nuran directly.  Don't go through a store. They will be pricey because the salon does a huge markup.  I ordered directly from her and got my shoes for $160.  She said they were "blemished", but I could not find anything significant.  I wore them for 10 hours before I could feel them.

    ROCK IS KING!!
  • Have you tried those Dr. Scholl insoles?  I bought some for my work heels - since I am on my feet for 12 hours a day, they do wonders.  I got mine @ Target.  they can make any shoe comfortable and your feet don't slide forward in them.
  • you live in NY, you should be able to find shoes that are comfortable somewhere.
  • thank you all ladies! I actually did see some 3" flip flops online that I can wear for dancing and my dress wouldn't drag.
I think I am going to go with the Filippa Scott or the Angela Nuran and I'll go to them directly (thanks for the advice!) And I'll add Dr. Scholls padding if I really need to.
I'll also check out a ballroom dance shoe store or 2 and then I'll have to make my decision. I think at this point, I'm just thinking too much.
Some of these bridal shoes are dyeable... including Filippa Scott, Benjamin Adams and Angela Nuran so after you wear them, you can dye them another color so you can always wear them! but yeah definitely no Jimmy Choos for me!

Here are a couple of pairs I love..

someone also told me Something Bleu by Cynthia Rowley also have smaller sizes and these look pretty nice to me. It's still high but it has a platform so it won't strain too much.
