  • A friend of mine went there and absolutely loved it. You will have the time of your life. :-)

  • 7 days is a LOOOONG time for Bangkok - honestly, way more than I would spend there.  We just did 12 nights in Thailand and split it up 4 in Bangkok, 4 in Chiang Mai, and 4 in Krabi.  That was perfect.  If you are open to changing your itinerary, I'd look into adding Chiang Mai - you can do a day with the elephants, explore the night markets, take a day of cooking class, go to Tiger Kingdom, visit Doi Suthep.

Tons of pictures posted on my photo site - bobandkate.shutterfly.com.

Have an amazing time - Thailand is one of our absolute favorite places and an excellent choice for a hm!  Let me know if you have any questions!

thanks for the recs on the timing! we are definitely still in the sorting things out stage, looking into getting around domestically and if we wanna see multiple places.  i really wanted to go to koh samui for some beach time but our budget is still on the small side and the plane ticket down there is like 500 for the both of us.  maybe ill look into if there is a train or something instead.  i will check out chiang mai too thanks!

Repeating what others have said, I agree 7 nights is a lot for Bangkok.  If I had 10 days, I'd split it up with 3 night in Bangkok, 3 in Ching Rai and 4 in Phuket.  Bangkok is a big bustling city, good for shopping and eating out.  In Chin Rai, if you stay at Anantara, they have their own Elephant preserve.  The resort is lovely and has a great spa.  Phuket is pretty close to Paradise and a great way to wrap up your trip.  In fact, I might be inclined to take one day off Bangkok or Ching Rai  and add to Phuket for the gorgeous beaches and amazing resorts!

Also in Phuket, you might enjoy a night canoe to see the bioluminescent algae (they glow in the dark).  You can book with http://johngray-seacanoe.com

And for a bit of culture and history, there are several temples in Phuket (Here are a few temples worth visiting in Phuket; Chalong Temple (Wat Chalong), Wat Sri Sunthorn, Wat Phra Thong, Wat Phra Nang Sang, Wat Sapam, and others.

    Have a great honeymoon!

okay ill look into other airlines for flights to the islands.  phuket is slightly cheaper to get to because it is bigger, but the islands on that side of the country that time of year are crazy rainy monsoons. other side has much more pleasant weather (where koh samui is). maybe i can look into alternative transportation!

thanks for the recomendations that elephant reserve sounds awesome and chiang mai sounds great too! so much to plan!

I am heading to Thailand in less than 2 weeks. I would agree that inter- thailand airfare is pretty inexpensive. Chaing Mai is worth looking at. We are spending 3 days in Bangkok and I think that will be plenty.

I think 3-4 days in Bangkok is sufficient.  Add in Chiang Mai, or spend more time on the beach, maybe two different beaches.

</div><div>The monkeys were in a small town outside of Bangkok.  We did two days of guided tours with a company called Tours with Tong.  The first day was a tour of the city using public transportation - a good way to try out a tuk tuk, take the water taxis, etc.  The next day, we did a combo trip of a railway market, a floating market, and a fishing village.  On our tour of the fishing village, we went through an area where there are a LOT of monkeys!  Incredible and, if I'm being honest, a tiny bit frightening. </div><div>
</div><div>The elephants were in Chiang Mai.  We did a whole day "elephant owners" program with Patara.  It was one of the highlights of our trip.
