August 2012 Weddings

RSVP vent

So with writing this I know my RSVP deadline is still 27 days away but I thought we would have heard from more people.  FI's family is mostly out of state and we thought more of them would try to attend.  I do understand it costs money to travel but still a little bummed.  We had 200 people on our list to start and I feel like now we may only have a half of that.  It's fine because I don't need a big wedding but we definitely planned on more people.  Again, I do realize my RSVP is still a few weeks away.. just venting. :)   Anyone else feel this way?

Re: RSVP vent

  • I have 17 days left for RSVPs and I've only gotten 5 back! I sent out 97 invitations.....I have a feeling I'll be making LOTS of phone calls on the 19th.

  • Our RSVP deadline is still about 3 weeks away, but I also thought we'd hear from more people by now. In the beginning we were getting a few each day, but now its slowed down a bit. We've only heard from about half of those we invited. Everyone, except for about 10 people, are coming from out of town and we sent invites a little early so people could make travel plans. Some of our extended family that we thought would come have since declined, so that's been hard, but I'm sure we'll have a great time with those that come.
  • Our RSVP deadline is in 7 days and we still have 101 people left (out of 278) who need to RSVP.  Everyone is coming from out of town, and with the holidays, and it being summer!, people are busy/may have forgotten to RSVP.  We're going to have to call a ton of people!

August is a busy, busy month for people!  We were expecting 180ish but its looking like 150 now...just means saving more money on food, centerpieces, programs, etc!!  But it still hurts when you open those decline RSVPs from someone you thought would be coming!
  • My RSVP date is July 5th and I still need quite a few. I am expecting to get alot last minute or a couple days after the due date. And I am also expecting to have to call a good amount of people including most of FI's family and all of the groomsmen.

  • Same boat.. what is the deal with people not RSVPing!?!? it's already stamped! My date is July 28 so yea there is still time but we are waiting on 100 out of 200 approx. that's a lot that will need to roll in, in the next few weeks... I'm a little worried bc I was just notified that a Great Aunt did not receive hers... and I KNOW 2 of the groomsmen didnt get theirs... how many people might be missing invitations???? Worry has really sank in .... I've got to remail my GA's but I think I'll be calling a LOT of people....

  • Well, I figured that everyone should have received theirs because we had our return address printed on the back and we haven't received any back.  I will say that anytime we are invited to a wedding in the future, I will definitely be sure to let people know if we are coming as soon as we know.  That is one lesson I have learned in all of this.

  • I have 2 weeks left and have heard from about 50 of 120.  I've heard MANY people wait until the last minute so I wouldn't stress too much.   Also, be prepared to make some calls! But give it 3-4 days after your RSVP date, if timing allows.

  • Our due date for RSVPs was today. I sent out invites to about 165 guests, and so far 38 have said anything. Why do people not RSVP? You send them a SASE, all they have to do is circle yes or no and send it through the damn mail! Gah! I mean, I guess for me it's common sense and polite manners, but I always reply promptly after I receive an invite. I'm wowed by the people that don't send them back.
What a beautiful mess this is...

  • Our deadline passed this weekend.  We have 26 people left to hear from, out of 137.

  • We've had about half of our RSVPs returned with our deadline being the end of the month.  It's really very nice to get them back so early, I know I'm not always the best when I need to RSVP to something!
  • 2 weeks left to RSVP and only heard from 35 of my 143 so far...smh

4 days left, and still waiting on 100 of about 230!

My advice:  Think about whether or not there's someone close to you (sibling, cousin, etc) who recently got married and had a lot of the same guests, and ask them what to expect.  I hadn't received any from my mom's (large) side of the family after a couple of weeks, so I asked my cousin (who got married last summer) if she had issues with them RSVPing.   She said most of the relatives on that side waited until the last couple of days to send theirs.  So I'm not as worried now!  And I have received a few since talking to her.

  • Our RSVP date is only 5 days away and there are still 119 out of 221 that haven't sent thier cards.  I have talked to a few people that said they would be there, but I don't want to mark them as a for sure until I get the cards.  I did the date 2 weeks before the final count is due to the caterer so that I had time to call all the straglers.  At first I was getting about 2-3 a day then it went down to 1 a day then 1 every few days and now none for like 2 weeks. My biggest concern is that that I had to guarentee a 135 for the caterer and I only have 77 that have accepted.  I don't want to pay for people that aren't there.

  • Our RSVP date has passed and we're still missing almost 45 RSVPs. Oddly enough it's the people closest to us who haven't yet mailed them. Another RSVP vent I have is that people are adding +1s when the invitation was addressed to just them! We were super careful about making sure we added SOs to invitations before we mailed them, and truly singles didn't get a +1.. but almost all of our single friends are RSVPing with an extra unnamed guest. So frustrating.

I've found that these people assume that you know they'll be there--probably why we haven't received RSVPs from FI's mom, grandparents, or my dad & stepmom with 4 days to go.  My mom sent hers, but only after asking "you don't need me to send it, do you?"....no mom, I just like to spend the money on self-addressed stamped envelopes!

We had ZERO come back yesterday.
