NO BEACH Honeymoon Need Ideas!

I HATE the beach. I grew up on Lake Erie, as did my groom to be, we've had enough beach.  Going to a beach resort would not be enjoyable for either of us. Every Honeymoon idea i look into is beach this tropical that. I prefer to go somewhere where we're not surrounded by half naked women. I need ideas about other Honeymoon destinations within the US. Anyone?

Re: NO BEACH Honeymoon Need Ideas!

  • Alaskan cruise? Hiking in the mountains (US or Canadian)? State park camping? Historical tour of a new city?
  • What's your budget?

    Charlotte, Sc
    Outer Banks, NC
    San Francisco
    Boston
    Washington DC
    Dsiney World
    Oregon Coast
    Grand Canyon

Is your wedding really in 2015? It's very soon to be planning a honeymoon

Have you looked at a map of the US?  There are plenty of destinations that don't have beaches.
  • What time of year are you going? For how long? Budget? What types of activities do you WANT to do? More details would help us give you suggestions.

But off the top of my head:
    Chicago
San Francisco or other areas of california like Napa/Sonoma
Colorado (lots of awesome outdoor activities)
    Alaska

Seems a bit silly to avoid a beach because women might be wearing bikinis....

But one of my favorite places in the US to go is New Orleans, great food, great atmosphere. Tons of fun and very historic as well.

Also Orlando, FL. There is so much to do there and not all of it is Disney or Universal. They have tons of other stuff to do too.

  • New Orleans, LA
    Phoenix, AZ
Toronto, Canada (Not US but still a fabulous city - and closer to Pittsburg than a lot of US cities)
    Montreal, Canada (ditto)
    San Francisco, CA

  • Stop looking at "honeymoon" ideas.  Start looking at great vacation ideas.

Do the two of you have a list of dream places you'd like to visit?  Those should be at the top of your honeymoon list.  What activities do you like?  Find a place that has those activities and build a trip around that.  Have the two of you ever been on a vacation together?  Go back if you had a good time.

I think it's time to focus on what you like instead of what you hate (such a strong word).  And where did you get this idea that honeymoon = beach?
  • Sedona, AZ
    New Orleans, LA
    Sonoma, CA
    Pacific Northwest

  • I ditto PPs about San Fran, New Orleans, and Charleston.  They are all fantastic.  I had to pry FI away from Charleston because the golfing there is so great (Kiawah, anybody?).  All three of those are coastal, but beachiness isn't really part of the vibe at any of them.

  • It's not within the US, but Quebec City in Canada is awesome and a very romantic place for a honeymoon.  I recommend it all the time!  How abot the White Mountains in New Hampshire?

Washington, DC, Napa Valley, Grand Canyon, Vegas??

That said, I agree with previous poster who said that if your wedding is actually in 2015, it's way early to be thinking about a honeymoon.  Also, the beach on a great lake is nothing like going to the beach in FL or CA, but if you prefer no beach, there are tons and tons of options.

  • Carmel, CA! <--- The most beautiful place in the world IMO :)
    New York, NY
    New Orleans
    Atlanta, GA
    Nashville, TN
    Vegas!

  • i dont see what the the issue of 'half naked women' is really. bathing suits? bikinis?....if you go somewhere in the summer and it's hot this happens anyway with shorts and tanks......

what's your budget? I wouldn't consider lake erie beaches to be ANYTHING like a nice caribbean beach jmho.  what else do you want to do? not want to do? budget?

  • Don't Laugh, my wedding isn't even in 2015, its later, we haven't set a date- that was just the latest i could register it on here.  Finances are the only issue in our wedding so i'm saving little by little so when we finally can take the time off to get married it won't be as big of an issue. Ideally would totally go with Disney World & Resorts, but i know he would object. I go totally 10 yr old nerd and he gets all closed minded.

The 'half naked women' thing is completely a modesty issue. I never ever show that much of myself in public, therefore i don't want to see that much of another person, male or female. Beaches put me in a foul mood, which is the last thing i want on my honeymoon!

Brittney- i totally agree about Boston as a destination, but i've already been lol i love it but i want something new. Someone else reading this- go to Boston. it rocks.

A couple of you said camping and nat'l parks- thats a wonderful idea, i didn't think of it for our honeymoon. now that i do, i think i would split time between camping and a fancy hotel.

These are ideas! not plans! the best thing you can do for anything is prepare, and thats all i'm doing. learning about options. I actually dread planning my wedding thats why i'm starting now, i'm going to know what i want and do as much ahead as humanly possible.
  • My sister went to the Poconos.

We thought about Napa, Vegas, and San Diego.

FI and I had a relatively small budget (compared to some ladies on these boards - it's perfectly sufficient), and we were going back and forth between Charleston and San Fran.  Then I started noticing all these deals for Costa Rica.  Turns out Costa Rica can be about the same price if you just stalk travelzoo, groupon, jetsetter, sniqueaway, etc.  We haven't booked yet, but we're looking to go to the Arenal volcano region, and will try to book in December/January for May.  It's in the middle of the country - no beaches anywhere in sight.  Yes all the hotels have pools, but you're mostly surrounded by rain forest.  Tons and tons of stuff to do there - rafting, nature tours, hikes, ziplining, caving, canyoning, volcano and lake tours, and you can do all of it based out of a single hotel.  You won't see many half-dressed tourists walking through the rain forest.  It attracts bugs.

  • You have plenty of time to think about this and decide. For now, I'd focus on a budget for your wedding and HM
