Good Base/Top Coat For Non-Chippy Nails?

Hey guys. 

I seem to have the worst luck with nail polish. No matter the type (OPI, Julep, etc.), it chips in one day. I have tried a few base coats and top coats, but it doesn't seem to matter.

Any recommendations for non-chippy nails? I'd love to keep using the nail polishes I have, so hopefully this is a base/top coat issue and not "throw all that crap away and get this $30 nail polish instead" issue.

    I've never found one that seems to make a difference.  What works for me is a process:

    1) my nails need to be shorter- when they're longer they bend and that causes chips.  So step 1 is cutting/filing nails

    2) after removing nail polish, wash hands THOROUGHLY, scrubbing nails.

    3) moisturizer (that rose salve stuff is the best in my experience)

    4) wash hands thoroughly again

    5) paint 3-4 very thin layers of polish, allowing time to dry between coats (15-20 minutes).

    Lasts about 2 weeks for me, when I don't do that?  Chips the next day.

    Thanks! I'll give that a shot. I feel like they didn't used to chip this badly--maybe after a few days, but I'm not even making it a full day.

    I agree withbraking your time amake akin sure all your remover and lotion gets off your nails, but I also swear by revlon's top coat no chip clear polish. It's only 5.99 and it really makes a big difference for me :

    Do you use a base coat /top coat with this process?

    Wipe your nails with removed and then apply OPI Chip Skip before you apply the base coat.

    I use OPI's Nail Envy as a base coat and it makes my polish last much longer than it ever did before.
