Chiavary Chairs..... worth it???

Hello all!  We are considering renting chairs for our reception.  We found a place that will do them around here for 4.95 a chair including tax, delivery, set up, and tear down.  I don't like the look of chair covers.  Here is my venue with the chairs as is:

or, here is a sample picture on our same venue with the "fancy" chairs:

Thoughts?

Re: Chiavary Chairs..... worth it???

  • I don't think it's worth the extra money. As long as the chairs are comfy no one will notice.

  • If you can afford it, then I don't see any reason why not.  Personally, I don't think anyone will notice the chairs once everyone is sitting in them.  But without people sitting in them, the chivari chairs definitely look nicer:-)

  • If you can afford it go for it. I think it makes a huge difference. That price sounds really good but check w your local as well. we are paying like six or seven dollars a chair.
  • i wouldnt spend extra on chairs.  but chairs arent important to me.
  • How many do you need? Honestly, those pinkish chairs would be OK if they jive with your color scheme, but if not, I'd try to upgrade. It really does depend on how many you need. If it's 100 or less, I'd DEFINITELY do it.

  • The chairs are definitely not the only thing that makes the second photo look so much better; there's nothing at all on the tables in the first picture, the lighting sucks, and the first photo emphasizes the bare walls.   If you do everything else up nicely I don't think the chairs will matter.

That said, if you can afford to upgrade without sacrificing anything else that guests really care about (open bar, food quality, etc.), I do think the chivari chairs look better.
  • This is one of those things that is great if you have the budget for it but if not, it's not the end of the world.  Even though I notice details like that, I am still not sure I would have shelled out $500+ for them.
  • I hate the look of chair covers & feel they are dated & I chose chiavari chairs. I feel that they look significantly better than chair covers. I see that you are from detroit, which is where I got married. I went with affairs to remember & it was 7.95/person including chairs, linen, and napkins.

I think I know the company where you got that price, which I think is fine (isn't she out of ann arbor??). I knew I wanted different linens, so I went with the company I did. People may not notice, but I personally would & it will look nicer in your pictures. PM me if you have any other questions.

Yes, the lady I went with is out of Ann Arbor.  There are two companies here that I have found.  One is 5 a chair and one is 4.95 a chair.  The 4.95 a chair includes tax, set up, tear down, and delivery.

Yea thats 'chiavari chair rental'...my florist (husbands aunt) recommended her & said her chairs looked great. I just wanted different linens. I think she is perfectly fine, especially if her price includes delivery, etc. Definitely keep the chiavari's, but if you want linens, I would go with affairs to remember. She has the best prices I found, but I would under estimate your count (to save $$$) and if you need to add more, you always can. Otherwise, you've comitted to a certain amount and they will make you pay that amount.

  • I don't know why those chairs are such a big deal.  I think they're uncomfortable and they feel flimsy to me.  If it's in your budget and it's important to you, go for it. But if it's for your guests, save the money, most of them won't notice or care.

  • Once your guests are seated in the chairs, you won't be able to tell the difference. I debated paying extra for the chiavari chairs too and so happy I didn't waste my money there. My venue had gorgeous white chair covers that looked just as nice. Look into chair covers/sashes.
