Holiday Themed favor

Okay we are having a November wedding with a holiday/rustic lodge theme. There will be Christmas trees and other holiday decorations. It will be a small wedding maybe 50 to 75 people. I was thinking of doing a felt stocking for everyone with holiday treats like, homemade Christmas candy, chocolate covered pretzels, hot coco mix, smore fixins, caramel apples then maybe a personalized Christmas ornament, a hot chocolate mug. All the edible stuff will be made by us, so it shouldn't be to costly as far as that goes, and the ornaments will probably be bought in bulk and personalized by us as well with paint. What are yall's thoughts on this? Good idea? Bad idea? Also any other items you would put in the stockings.

    Two Questions:
    1) Do all of your guests celebrate Christmas? If not they aren't going to want the Christmas elements of those favors.

    2) Personalized how?  With your names?  If I'm your sister I might like an ornament from your wedding for my tree.  If I'm your co-worker's plus one I'm either leaving it behind or tossing it in the trash.

But if everyone is into Christmas and you lose the personalization (or limit it to close family) I think it could be a pretty cute idea.

Ditto pp's questions.  Sounds good to me. I like everything you're including.  My only issue would be the stocking itself since most people probably already have one.  Maybe you could use Christmas bags instead?  Just a thought.

I think the "idea" is fine, but that's an awful lot of DIY stuff to be doing beforehand. If you are personalizing the ornament with the guest's name, I think that's fine and thoughtful. But I agree with the prior poster, don't put your names on them.

Something I did for a holiday party that people enjoyed was this: I bought smallish (about 3 inches) metal cookie cutters in holiday shapes (angel, star, mitten) and layed them out on cookie sheets on top of waxed paper. I melted chocolate and filled the cutters, sprinkled with holiday colored nonpariels, put them in the freezer to harden, then wrapped them with holiday cellophane bags. They can keep the cookie cutter, and get an edible favor to take home with them.

I think if you do just one type of favor to put in your stocking it's easier, you can just give them more of that one.

    Good luck.

Mysticl: To question 1...yes all the guest celebrate Christmas it's mostly going to be family and close friends....not really co workers and random other people. To question 2....I mean personalize them with their names, and maybe thank you for celebrating our special day.

Kimp67: I know everyone probably already has a stocking but I thought that's what made them cute and unique.

Sue: As far as all the diy stuff....you clearly don't know my mom and her sisters.... I swear it's like a different craft project every hour...lol I love your cookie cutter idea...I might add something like that in too. I kinda thought having a variety would be easier because one aunt can make the chocolate covered pretzels at her house and the next aunt can make some Christmas candy at her house, and then we can do the ornaments, etc..... My whole family wants to chip in like that.. it's what we do. They wouldn't feel a part of the day if they didn't actually have some part in the putting together of the wedding.

    Keep the ideas coming ladies.

I'd say to skip the personalized ornament.  If you want to include Christmas ornaments, I think that's fine, but I personally wouldn't care to have an ornament on my tree that has my name on it.  Maybe for the kids you could personalize the ornaments since they would probably think it was cool, but for the adults, just give them a cool ornament.

I like the idea of a stocking.  I have my own stocking, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't use the other stocking for decoration.

Agreed that I wouldn't personalize the ornaments.  I'm assuming all your guests celebrate Xmas or you wouldn't be going with that theme.

I found some snowflake ornaments at Hobby Lobby in bulk that I'll be using for escort "cards" - just attaching a tag with names.

I also would skip the personalization on the ornaments. I think that most people would prefer something pretty on them or one in your colors than their name. I know that Michaels has tons of little Christmas type items in the dollar section. Dollar stores also have tons of cute little things that would make great additions, like little note pads, mini cookie cutters, mini ornaments, etc.

I think you might be underestimating the cost of all of those items.  Yes, you are having a small wedding, but you would be preparing 50 - 75 of each individual item.  That's going to take a really long time, and cost quite a bit.  The stockings alone would be around a dollar a piece.

What about going for something more simple, but is also more likely to be used by your guests?  Maybe just the hot cocoa and marshmallows?

We would be making the stockings too...We already have a bunch of left over felt from various projects and we are just gonna cut out the stockings and sew together the two sides...we already have the thread and the sewing machines, so there would be no added cost for the actual stockings. The only things we would really be out any money on would be the cost of ingredients for the edible items and the cost of the ornaments and cookiecutters.

I would opt for an ornament.  You can get some beautiful ones at Micheals with their 40% coupon.  Also, you can make the ornaments into the escort cards as well by attaching a tag with the name and table number to the ornament.  Killing 2 birds with 1 stone!    My sister did her escort tags like this.  She found a vendor on Wedding Bliss Lane that she used.  They were adorable!

I really like your idea, but it sounds like there will be a lot of work ahead of you!

Personally, I am going to give an ornament (click) as a favor to our guests. We will only have immediate family and our closest friends (a total of 35 guests) in attendance, so I think it would be meaningful for them. You know your guests, and if you want to give them an ornament, I say go for it.
