Bursting bouquet?

My mom recently heard about a "bursting bouqet." I guess the idea is that the tossing bouquet is secretly 5 separate bouquets. Right before the toss, you untie the ribbon holding them all together, and when you toss - SURPRISE - 5 ladies get something to catch. I've never heard of this before - but it sounds fun. Anyone seen this? How'd it go?

  • I haven't seen it, but I like it :-)  Always nice to involve more people.

I'd make sure you have enough "single ladies" who aren't shy about catching it though. I've been to some weddings where people are prying girls out of their seats to make sure there are enough to participate.
  • One of my friends actually did this. I was quite suprised because she didn't tell me about this. I wont be doing it for my wedding, but I think it is a cute idea but I would try to pick a small number, depending on how many girls you think youll have. At her wedding each flower in her bouquet was set apart and everyone but one girl got one so I thought that was a little awkward.

  • i have never heard of it....that is kind of cool!

i am sure the florist has done this before...if not she probably knows what to do. you could also get 5 thin stems of fake flowers and it the ribbon yourself
  • I've seen it and actually I am doing it (but we call it a breakaway bouquet)....make sure you kinda keep it secret otherwise it ruins the surprise.  Also let your photog know so they can get in a spot to capture this best.

  • I like the term "breakaway" rather than bursting... I clicked this hoping the bouquet was going to explode or something.

Anyway - I haven't heard of this but think it's a cute idea. However, really consider how many single ladies there will be (If there's only 6... don't have 5 bouquets) and I don't like the idea that EVERYONE gets one. Just 5 for like 10+ people

Me too! My first thought was a bouquet with fireworks!
  • My MOH did this at her wedding - she called it an "exploding bouquet" and hinted that I should do the same.

I decided to do something a bit different, since there will be very few single ladies or men at our wedding/reception.

We are going to have someone announce the tossing of the bouquet/garter, inviting all the ladies/men up to participate, regardless of marital status.  The one who catches the bouquet/garter will "win" a gift basket each filled with various goodies.

  • In the 70's, I was a flower girl for my aunt.  Her bouquet was a large flat rectangle, and the center cluster of flowers actually popped out for her to toss.

I took an easy way out myself by having a toss bouquet made.  It was just a few stems, but had yards of ribbon so it looked pretty flying through the air.

  • i read an article somewhere where it suggested having little bouquets put together and then tossing each one seperately. much like this. but each mini bouquet had a ribbon with a special note on each one. something encouraging for single ladies. quotes and such. i thought that was a cute idea.
