What was your shower like?

I am curious what people's showers were like, what kind of place you had it, how it was decorated if at all, what you did like any "shower games," etc.
I've only been to one and it was set up like a mini wedding reception- is that the norm or anything? Like centerpieces and a sit down brunch and all of that?

My MOH hosted my shower, and she did a really lovely brunch with cupcakes for dessert. There were a few cocktail options, also.

There were no games (I hate shower games, and she knew that), but it was wonderful to get to mingle with all the ladies. I think it lasted about 3 1/2 hours by the time we ate, I opened my gifts, etc.

I definitely wouldn't compare it to a mini-reception, as it was just women, there was no dancing, etc. It was just a nice, relaxing time to have brunch and visit.

My mom and my MOH hosted my shower with a lot of help from my other BM's. It was a Mad Hatter Tea Party and was held at a local country club. There was a topsy turvy cake with a bunch of cupcakes surrounding the base of the cake that were take home favors for the guests and a mimosa fountain. Every table had a few floral arrangements that were in a teapot, and every seat had a teacup and saucer that the guests were able to take home. The BM's also framed a bunch of different tea recipes that were on the tables.

We had a few games even though I hate bridal shower games. I just pleaded with the hosts that we wouldn't do the toilet paper bride game. So they did a few simple games such as the pocketbook game and the newlywed game where they asked my DH questions beforehand and I had to try and guess the same answer he gave. The guests had to guess how many I'd get right, and the winner took home a prize.

There are several pics of my bridal shower in my planning bio under the Pre-Wedding Parties tab. HTH!

I hosted my best friends shower.  It was super casual and no games.  We had it at my brothers house because he has a big backyard. (unfortunately it rained so we couldn't go out there.)  We had a buffet lunch, italian style with lasagne and bakes ziti and such.  It was perfect for her, since she's a down to earth girl and doesn't like being the center of attention.

My was at a local tea house. We had tea and treats (savory and sweet) then I opened my gifts. There were no games, but it was nice to sit around and chat with everyone.

Our DD's shower was in our backyard.  We had a tent, and the menu was desserts and wine/lemonade.

There were two games, although our DD had asked for none.  Her FSIL was (still is) pushy and announced them even though she was asked not to.  :(

The rest of the shower was exactly as DD wanted:  guest list of about 20, and very low key and lovely.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
