Buying from David's Bridal

I have heard bad things about them so I am not sure if I should or not. I found one that I like from another store and DB doesn't carry it. I was going to schedule an appointment but I don't know.

Anyone have any stories about them? Good or bad?

Re: Buying from David's Bridal

  • I had a good experience with them and bought my dress, undergarments, veil and my daughters FG dress there.

The only part was the wait to be seen when I came in, but they were EXTREMELY busy! And for how busy they were we received a lot of attention!

  • I had heard nothing but bad stories from Davids Bridal, but after looking at several bridal shops for dresses I said to myself I had to give it a try for myself or I'll never know ... I made an appointment for like a Tuesday morning right when they opened.  It was empty and I was able to get alot of personal attention and I have NO complaints about them - I ended up buying my dress there and so did all my BMs.

If you are giong to go, I'd say don't go on a weekend or an evening if you can avoid it - they'll be packed and the service probably won't be so great.

But honestly, I'd give it a shot - its worth it for the deals you can get!
  • Just like most major chain stores, DB's are very location-specific. I think it's a total hit or miss with which consultant you get and when you come in. I've heard both bad and good stories. We ended up buying our MOG dress there and it was easy, just like buying in any other regular department store type environment in my opinion.
  • i bought my dress their and i love it and my experience has been great so far, I had my appointment and then my fitting and both experiences were good
  • I got my dress from there and actually preferred it over the local boutique I went to.  I don't like being fussed over or feeling forced to buy something.  If you want a calm experience, I suggest going on a a weeknight, like a Monday or Tuesday.  Usually it is just managers working that late and they are super helpful.

  • I loved my DB dress, and while the experience wasn't magic and fairy dust and singing woodland creatures, it was by no means bad, especially for brides on a budget.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I got one of my dresses from there, and the person that helped me was absolutely wonderful and patient.  She listened to what I wanted (simple, elegant, no train, at less than $500, etc.).  It definitely is busy, so I would suggest making appointments during the week.
  • I have heard plenty of both positive and negative reviews. However, their customer service frightens me. In this post on Snarky Brides, the poster received a majorly defective gown and the shop refused to replace it. That's just bad business to me.

  • Thank you all for your honesty. I think I will go with my gut and get the dress I cried over at my local shop. :)

  • When I went to David's Bridal and they had the time and everything to cater directly to me. I didn't see anything online or in the catalog that I loved but trying on the dresses I found THE DRESS. When I ordered it they told me my dress would take 18 weeks to come in because I was ordering a dress in a very small size that is rarely ordered... my dress literally took 10 days to come in! My experience at David's Bridal was wayyy better than the bridal boutique's I went to so I would recommend it... and I got my dress for literally like 1/4 of the price.
  • It depends on the location.  I went to a horrible DB with one friend, and another different one that was great.  It depends on where, and when, you go.  Don't expect super awesome help on a Saturday afternoon (especially during prom season, yikes!).  go with the dress you cried over!

  • My BM dresses came from there and we had no problems.  Definitely make an appointment if you are going there.  My moms dress also came from there.  She was able to buy off the rack so it was very easy.  I never even looked for my dress there only because I had seen mine at a bridal show so I went to the store from the show and tried it on and ordered it that day.

You can definitely get great deals from DB, but you lose the quality customer service and doting that you get at a small boutique.  They will threaten that if you don't order your dress that exact day that they can't guarantee it will be in on time, even if your wedding is a year away.  Thats just how they get more sales before you rethink your decision.  And they don't store your dress for you, where smaller stores usually do.  If you can work around that then its definitely worth the savings you get.

  • ive had nothing but great experiences w/ multiple DB locations.
in high school i would get my dressed there for proms or homecomings and never had any issues.
its the only place i went to find a dress and had steller service on a saturday afternoon, granted i made an appt and it was packed in there, but my associate took her time w/ me.
all of our BM and FG dresses came from there (at different locations too) and none of the girls had any issues, not once.
all of us had our dresses altered there as well.  my alterations have taken several times, but for the cost i paid they're doing anything i ask with the alterations each time i go there to try the dress back on again, ahah!  oh, and when i bought the dress i was told it would take 3 months to come in...it was in the very next week!

  • I just purchased my dress there this month.  I made an appointment on a Saturday or Sunday (can't remember which) and lucked out.  They weren't as busy as I thought they would be and I had an awesome consultant.  She actually picked out my dress based on other dresses I was trying on and had picked out.  They said my dress would come in at the end of September.  It arrived in one week.  I was shocked.
  • The first time I went to davids bridal I didn't have a great experience. I went about a year later to a different davids bridal and I had an awesome experience. My consultant helped me in all the dresses I tried on. I would advice you to go during the week. I ordered my dress on a Tuesday afternoon without my mom there. I really didn't want to order it without her there but my dress was $200 off. So, I made an appointment for a Saturday evening so she could go. My consultant this time was not so helpful she didn't help me in my dress or help with anything and she would just walk away and would not come back for awhile. ALso, when we were looking and toasting flutes and cake servers, I asked how much they were and she told me and then I asked if I could use my coupon that I received in my packet when I bought my dress and she said no its for online orders only. When I got home I looked at the coupon and it said in store or online so I will be calling and talking to a manager about this to see if I can get my $15 back! But all in all I am glad that I got my dress there!
  • i loooovveedd db! my dress - my consultant - everything
