make-up product suggestions

I'm going to be doing my own wedding make-up (with the help of my bridesmaids), but I need to get some nice products first.  I've never bought ANY make-up at department stores like Macy's or specialty stores like Sephora, so does anyone have any recommendations for stores/make-up brands/consultants?  I don't want to spend lots (is under $50 a reasonable total?) and would also love to get some tips on how to wear it - is that something they do at the counter when you buy?

Thanks for your help!

Hi! I really like Sephora because you can mix and match brands to get what fits your needs best at all different price points.  They also have make up artists in the stores that can show you how to put the products on and you can try them out to see if you like them.

You can easily spend more than $50, but you can also mix higher end products wth great budget friendly ones.  For example, I didn't find any long wearing lip colors at Sephora that didn't transfer when i kissed DH.  However, Maybelline makes a great Colorstay lip color.  You put it on, it dries, and then it ocmes with a clear chapstick you put on top of it to keep it moist.  No matter how much you kiss FI/DH it won't come off.

I would splurge and get a good foundation, especially if you have oily/shiny skin.  I really like Make Up Forever in Matte.  It makes your skin look flawless.

Depending on your budget, I also like
    - Nars blush
    - Dior mascara - a good substitute is CoverGirl Lash Blast
    - Model in a Bottle (can be ordered online and used for your whole bridal party) - it's a finishing spray that you put on top of your make-up.  My friends and I have all used it for our weddings and it's pretty fantastic.  You can dance and dance, cry, sweat, and your make-up stays fresh.

    Hope that helps!

I went to Sephora in the Columbia Mall and the girl I worked with was great!  She showed me some different products, demonstrated them and had me try applying so that I would feel comfortable on my wedding day doing it myself.  I think her name was Brianna.  She was wonderful.  I just went in, said I was looking for wedding day makeup and needed someone to help me find something and show me how to apply it.

One thing about Sephora is that they have a lot of different brands so the make-up artists are not tied to one brand.  GL!
