Cake styles

So my fiance wants to go with the Cake stands, and Bride & Groom cake toppers, with the cascading stairs coming down the sides. I on the other hand want a stacked cake with cascading flowers down the sides. I don't know if we are going to come to a compromise. How did you ladies decide? What cake style did you go with?

Same here! I don't like it. How do I go about telling him "no!" I want a more modern cake.. no fountains, no stairs! Help!

His ideas are a little dated. Have you looked a pics of cakes and see if there is something more modern that he might like? Could it just be that that's what he thinks a wedding cake is supposed to look like? Or is he dead set on that style cake and nothing can change his mind? Reason and persuasion are your best bets.

i wonder if there's a way to modernize the stairs idea. personally i always thought it was kind of fun....but PP are right -- the 'traditional' stairs are very dated by now.

maybe make the stairs part of the cake? lol

maybe ask him WHY he likes that look, and try to incorporate those reasons.
