Name change

I'm on my way to the post office to send my SS-5 off to Social security to officially change my name and I'm having a little anxiety about it. I feel guilty about it but I'm sure this must be normal. Any thoughts from you gals?

I don't talk to my father by choice so I can't wait to get rid of my last name!!! I will however say that it is a little weird. Next month my name will change... it's just a weird thought in general.

Ugh, it's such a pain!!  I went to SS last Friday and then had to wait until the new card came in the mail to go to MVA to get my new license.  So I did that yesterday.  Now I'm in the process of finding out who wants want to change names.  Some want SS card, some want marriage license, some want nothing but a phone call.

I see now why people that get divorced and then remarried often don't change their names again!

Wait, what is SS-5?  I thought you just needed the marriage license and your SS card to change your name in DE?  And then you have to wait 72 hours before going to the DMV?

SS-5 is the form you have to fill in to officialize your name change. I printed it myself and mailed it to Social Security with one form of ID(I used my passport) and my marriage certificate to avoid standing in line at the SS office. You don't need your original SS card and they mail back all your documents.

SS-5 is just the name of the application you fill out to apply for your new card.

While I don't have a connection to my father or his family, I, too, have really severe anxiety over this.  Sadly, it is a dealbreaker for FI (lovingly...).   am going to hyphenate my name for awhile to wean off of it. I blame it on being established in my career and known by my name but the truth is that name is me.  So I will increase it from 26 letters to 33 letters for awhile.

Plus it makes the telemarketers even more fun to listen to...
