Outdoor wedding shoes

Hey ladies,
I am currently writing up a map/hotel accomodations/ misc. wedding info insert to send out with the invitations.  I am not going to be nit picky at all about guests' attire, but I do want to suggest proper footwear since we are going to get married right next to a lake.  I do not want the lady guests to aerate the soil and break their ankles by wearing pointy heals.  I was thinking of adding 'garden shoes suggested' on  the insert.

Thinking of this from a guest's point of view, would this make any sense to you? I would not think anyone would wear shoes that they literally garden in, but you never know ;o)

Re: Outdoor wedding shoes

  • yea, all of our guests are aware that it is an outdoor ceremony. most people should know to stay away from stillettos once they are aware of that fact. if they don't that's their problem.

  • I think that B has a good point.

I would read garden shoes as the shoes I would wear to work on my garden.

You could say Lakeside Ceremony if you'd not just say outdoor.

Or you could say..flatter shoes reccomended for the grounds in which you will be dancing! Wear points if you wanna be a stick in the mud!  Or something cute along that line! Just to get your point across!
When i saw garden shoes, i immdiately thoguht of muddy shoes! haha! I would also be an appreciative guest if you mentioned what kind of shoes would be helpful to wear!

  • My garden shoes are cute, but definitely not wedding cute :)

I mentioned the outdoor ceremony on an insert (don't forget to wear grass appropriate shoes, bring sunscreen etc) and then spread it via word of mouth. Mil and sil also called their relatives about a week before the wedding to let them know it had been very rainy so make sure not to wear pointy heels.
  • I think an insert like Katie suggested would be best. I wouldn't know what you meant by garden shoes.

  • I like the insert idea and agree with everyone else that "garden shoes" is a little bit confusing. You could add something to your wedding website, in addition to the invitation insert.
