  Like FTL said anything that you would wear to a swanky prom. or any other ball. Floor length, but other then that as long as it's classy your good. straps no straps etc. Honestly getting the dress is my favorite part of going to the balls. I haven't been to an air force one, but I've been to a few navy and more recently army and its been the same song and dance each time. Enjoy! If i can find some pictures on my laptop I'll post, but I think they are all on the harddrive that PCS*ing*.

  OP-FTL gave you great advice.  Military Balls are like a classy prom.  If you feel at all like you're showing too much skin, or your dress is too sexy, it probably is.  At the same time though, you don't want it to be a pretty pretty princess pouf dress either.  You want to compliment your FI.  Think Classy, Elegant, Sophisticated, Timeless.

  We're Navy, so not totally the same, but similar- I know at previous Navy balls, it seems like women who aren't wearing floor length gowns get snarky looks from others.  Some have simple gowns, while others have extremely formal ones, but it seems like the "thing" is that the "should" be floor length.  I once heard someone compare military balls to black-tie formal affairs, with uniforms instead of tuxes.  Hope that helps!

  Oh! And I was also SUPER NERVOUS about the formalities the first time I went to one.  It was definitely a formal event...but just be polite to everyone, exhibit good table manners and you'll be fine.  Let me know if you have any specific questions about that

  The only thing I would add is watch the clevage. Make sure if you are wearing the strapless that the twins are secure and you can't see boob crack.
  
  Also, I'm going to a AF ball next month (stage, unfortunatelly) but I'll be reusing a floor length dress. If that helps.

  I am getting the grey dress from Davids Bridal I LOVE it!! And they had only one dress of that style and it was my size. I would say it was meant to be. Thanks ladies!
