Random Poll and Recipe Exchange: Most Important Meal of the Day

I'm doing the recipe exchange a little early this week, because I'm going to be in job interviews pretty much every day from tomorrow through Friday, and I thought I would add a poll about food and your fiances/husbands.

First, the poll:

Does your fiance/husband cook?
If so, what's the best dish he makes?
What's the worst thing he has ever made?
What was the first thing you cooked for him?
Do you cook him anything special for his birthday?

And for this week's recipe exchange: What's your favorite thing to make for breakfast?

Enjoy!

Does your fiance/husband cook? Yes; in fact, he worked at his family's restaurant from the time he was 15 until he was 20, so he knows his way around the kitchen. If so, what's the best dish he makes? He makes a mean chocolate chip waffle :-) Breakfast is his specialty. What's the worst thing he has ever made? He made this thing where he just threw some chicken, onion, tomato and rice into a foil pouch and cooked it. I don't know what it was, but it was bland and weird. Valiant effort though. What was the first thing you cooked for him? I think it was a salad with romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, chicken with Italian seasoning, cheddar cheese, bacon bits, croutons and Ranch dressing.Do you cook him anything special for his birthday? Last year, I think I cooked him steak with sweet potato fries and salad. I always make him a cake too, but I get a little help from Betty Crocker with that one. Maybe I will make one from scratch for his next birthday...
And now, my recipe (actually, this is something my husband makes):
Stovetop breakfast casserole (will feed 4)1 box skillet hash browns (the dried kind you have to rehydrate)1 pound of bacon, diced8 eggs Cheddar cheese to melt on top
    1. Dice up the bacon and cook in a skillet until browned and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer bacon bits to paper towel placed on a cooling rack to drain excess fat.2. If you are using the same skillet throughout the recipe, clean the bacon fat out of it. Cook skillet hash browns according to box directions; this will serve as the "crust" of the casserole. (Make sure it doesn't burn, we have made this mistake before. No bueno)3. Top the hash browns with the diced bacon.4. Scramble eggs, pour on top; continue to cook.5. If the center of the casserole doesn't cook, you may have to turn your broiler on low and put it under it for a few minutes.6. Top with Cheddar cheese, cook until melty (can be on stovetop or under low broiler).

Does your fiance/husband cook?  Do hot dogs and steam ums count as cooking? If so, what's the best dish he makes?  Actually, he is good with the grill.  I have to remind him not to cook the meat to death, but the grill is his appliance of choice.
What's the worst thing he has ever made?  ??
What was the first thing you cooked for him?  I made stuffed shells the day after we met.
Do you cook him anything special for his birthday?  I think we usually go out to eat.
I am too lazy at the moment to go downstairs and get the recipe, but I will post it later.

    Does your fiance/husband cook?
    He does a bit
If so, what's the best dish he makes?
He makes great steaks. He made his own sauce to marinate them with once & then he put cinammon butter on them. It sounds weird, but it was the best steak I've ever had.
What's the worst thing he has ever made?
    hmm...a soggy grilled cheese
What was the first thing you cooked for him?
Breakfast food I think. Pancakes, eggs, bacon probably...i don't remember well
Do you cook him anything special for his birthday?
    nope

And for this week's recipe exchange: What's your favorite thing to make for breakfast?
I'm not really a big cooker. In fact my favorite thing to make for breakfast in chocolate chip pancakes. They're super easy :)

Does your fiance/husband cook? Yes, he wants to learn to cook better though.

If so, what's the best dish he makes? He's good at grilling.  Especially grilling fish.

What's the worst thing he has ever made? Ham and broccoli alfredo, he used vanilla yogurt instead of plain.  Not a good substitution.

What was the first thing you cooked for him? I don't remember, but I made him the recipe that I'll put at the end towards the beginning of our relationship, and his eyes really lit up when he took a bite :)

Do you cook him anything special for his birthday? Nope, we go out.

This is my family's brunch recipe - make it up the night before and just throw it in the oven in the morning!

    Sausage Souffle
    9 eggs
    2 cups milk
    2 slices bread, cubed
    1 tsp salt
    1 tsp mustard
    1 cup grated cheddar cheese
    1 lb mild sausage

Brown and drain sausage.  Mix and beat eggs, add milk, salt, and mustard.  Add bread and stir.  Pour into 9x13 pan, add sausage and cheese evenly througout pan.  Refridgerate overnight (8 hrs). Bake uncovered at 350 for 45 minutes, let stand 5 min before serving.

    Does your fiance/husband cook? Yes.
If so, what's the best dish he makes? I forget what its called, but its basically cooked carrots with cinammon and milk and some other stuff -- and you put it on top of ice cream. It sounds weird, but it's super good.
What's the worst thing he has ever made? He doesn't make many bad things. What was the first thing you cooked for him? I don't know.
Do you cook him anything special for his birthday? I make him a special birthday dessert every year. (It changes year to year though)
And for this week's recipe exchange: What's your favorite thing to make for breakfast? Oh I can't give you that -- it's a top secret family recipe. It's Breakfast casserole. Basically, bread, eggs, milk, sausage, bell peppers, onions, and cheese. Mix it all together and bake it. That's as much as I can tell you.

Does your fiance/husband cook? If so, what's the best dish he makes?
Yes he does :)  He's been cooking longer than me. He's good at lasagna or pasta bake, but recently he made this yummy tuna dish:

What's the worst thing he has ever made?
I guess the time he burnt salmon

What was the first thing you cooked for him?
wow I don't remember... maybe linguini & smoked salmon?

Do you cook him anything special for his birthday?
not yet. maybe would make sushi or one of his mum's meals. last year his birthday was on Thanksgiving! and we went out for dinner in 2009. and his mum made the meal in 2008. and 2007 we were in different countries. and in 2006 we hadn't met yet :)

And for this week's recipe exchange: What's your favorite thing to make for breakfast?
Would have to be on the weekend! Maybe an omelette & latte. I enjoy gallo pinto (beans & rice) which is brekky food in Costa Rica, but I've only made it for dinner. and there's this Costa Rican sauce that I put on it, which is also good on eggs.

    Does your fiance/husband cook?

    Yes...he's amazing!
If so, what's the best dish he makes?

He's good at grilling things, but he makes the best pancakes ever (they're legendary in his circle of friends)...he likes to experiment with everthing that he makes to make it better every time
What's the worst thing he has ever made?

For some reason, his mac n' cheese out of the blue box is terrible (and I lovekraft mac n cheese!)  He's not a recipe follower and doesn't measure out ingredients, so anything with specific ingredients turns out not so great
What was the first thing you cooked for him?
    probably manicotti or chicken parm.

Do you cook him anything special for his birthday?

I love to bake, so I usually make some kind of dessert
And for this week's recipe exchange: What's your favorite thing to make for breakfast?

FI's pancakes. No recipes though...usually just regular pancake mixings with nutmeg and cinnamon and vanilla thrown in there, topped with vanilla whipped cream, chopped prailine pecans, and maple syrup.  Yum...

    Does your fiance/husband cook?
Occasionally. He makes himself Mac & Cheese when I'm gone, since I don't like it.  And he cooked us pancakes for breakfast the other day. :)

If so, what's the best dish he makes?
Honestly, it's not really a dish, but he makes AWESOME smoothies.

What's the worst thing he has ever made?
Well, when we were dating, I was going through the process of figuring out what I could and could not eat. He made these fancy BLTs that I couldn't eat any of. :P They're really good, just not for  me. ;)

What was the first thing you cooked for him?
Our first date I was making poached eggs on toast for myself and he came over and had some.

Do you cook him anything special for his birthday?
Mac & Cheese, of course. :D It's his absolute favorite.

And for this week's recipe exchange: What's your favorite thing to make for breakfast?
Waffles, probably. I add cinnamon and vanilla to the batter to give it a little extra flavor.

Another yummy recipe - Egg in a Nest

    You need:
    Eggs
    Bread
    Butter
    Syrup if desired

    Heat butter in a pan
Cut a circle (or square) shape out of the center of one piece of bread for each nest
Put the bread into the pan, and break an egg into the center hole
Cook until egg is cooked mostly through, then flip it
Cook a bit longer, then remove from pan
Serve as is, or with syrup

And for this week's recipe exchange: What's your favorite thing to make for breakfast?i LOVE this recipe my mom uses for cinammon coffee cake: (but i'd make it the night before cuz i don't like waiting that long for breakfast lol)- 2 cups of flour-1 cup of sugar-3 tsp baking powder-1tsp salt-1/3 cup butter/margarine softened-1 cup milk-1 egg

    Does your fiance/husband cook?
he grills.  but I do all the prepping and cooking.  he will help me chop and do things like that, but he just doesn't cook much.

If so, what's the best dish he makes?
    he grills well!

What's the worst thing he has ever made?
there was this one time he tried to make salsa in a blender, but didn't screw the lid on all the way... oy.

What was the first thing you cooked for him?
a dessert or something.  it was so long ago, I don't remember!

Do you cook him anything special for his birthday?
    whatever he asks for!

And for this week's recipe exchange: What's your favorite thing to make for breakfast?
for a quick breakfast, I like to do a southwestern scramble.  usually I do this after we've had tacos or quesadillas...  I start cooking the eggs, and when they start to solidify I add all the leftover things (mushrooms, black beans, corn, onion, tomatoes, peppers, jalapenos, etc.) and cook until the eggs are done, top with some shredded cheese and serve.  easy and fast.

I like to also make french toast (Martha-style) and breakfast quesadillas.  and when I'm in a rush, I toast a cinnamon raisin english muffin (or bread or whatever) and add some peanut butter, drizzle honey, and sliced bananas.  mmm!!

    Does your fiance/husband cook?
When I don't feel like cooking. I usually do it.

If so, what's the best dish he makes?
He does a really awesome job at making a sauce for stir fry.

What's the worst thing he has ever made?
He made some rock hard (I swear, they could have been substituted for concrete) cookies once.

What was the first thing you cooked for him?
    Curry.

Do you cook him anything special for his birthday?
    Brownies. They're his favorite.

For breakfast...we made a cereal/oatmeal/nut/dried fruit mix. H eats his with milk, I put water in mine and microwave it. That's our go to for every morning. For weekends or when I have more time, I love making gluten free pancakes. :)

Does your fiance/husband cook? Yes, he's got mad cooking skills and has worked at a couple of different restaurants!
If so, what's the best dish he makes? Can't pick--he's come up with some amazing vegan concoctions for me, from ginger "beef" to "cheese"cake!
What's the worst thing he has ever made? I've liked everything he's made. He didn't like his stuffed dates wrapped in vegan bacon, but that's because he thinks dates look way too much like cockroaches!
What was the first thing you cooked for him? Well, the first time I went over to his place, he taught me how to make arepas (traditional Venezuelan food!). The first thing I made all by myself for him was probably pasta with a spicy peanut sauce. He doesn't like peanut butter and I'm an addict, so I've been trying to ease him into it. :P
Do you cook him anything special for his birthday? Actually, what he really wants for his birthday is for me to not be vegan for a day so that he can cook me deliciously cheesy stuff. I'm considering it. :)
And for this week's recipe exchange: What's your favorite thing to make for breakfast?
My favourite breakfast for years has been my grandma's bread (super dense and grainy, no white flour at all), with peanut butter, sliced banana, and ground flaxseed on top.

Right now, however, I'm on an oatmeal kick. I mix one packet of instant oatmeal (organic, no sugar added) with a tablespoon of peanut butter (also organic, no added sugar or salt), and about 20 dark chocolate chips (fair trade and organic, of course--I think food tastes better when you know the farmers are getting paid what they deserve!). I find that oatmeal keeps me full for ages, along with protein from the peanut butter and chocolate for my sweet tooth (and heart!)
