Types of Wine

So last Saturday I bought some wine for the wedding, I prefer white, so I bought a lot more white than red. So I'm here to ask you ladies what you prefer, do more people like white over red. I bought 18 1.5 liters of white and 5 1.5 liters of red. FI says we spent enough on wine, so it doesn't matter if we don't have enough red, but I thought I could use some other opinions. TIA!

I can tell you that when I worked in restaurants, people ordered red 2-3 times more often than white. You should at least have even numbers, but I would recommend 1/3 white and 2/3 red.

It's great that white is your favorite, but remember that this is for your guests not just you. You want to provide them with what they want to drink.

Even though I prefer red wine (cabernet or shiraz), I often don't drink it during social functions because I don't like how it stains my mouth/teeth. During social functions I almost always opt for white wine instead. If your guests are anything like me, you might be fine.

I actually don't recall if we even had red wine at our wedding - if we did, no one was drinking it. Everyone was perfectly happy with unlimited beer, mixed drinks, white wine, and champagne. Our wedding location (Florida Keys) may have drawn people more to the cool, iced drinks rather than room-temp red wine.

love red (also shiraz) and i agree with mynameisnot that when i worked in restaurants, i sold a lot more red than white. good luck!

In working in resturaunts in the past, I noticed the opposite of mynameisnot, most people drank white wine. Could just be the region you are in, but I would say stick with white if that is what you prefer

I personally prefer white (except chardonnay), but I think I am atypical. I'm not much of a wine drinker and I prefer a good beer or interesting cocktail to a glass of wine. I really only drink wine if FI and I are having a fancy dinner and we split a bottle or if we go to a wine tasting. That said, moscato isn't a wine I'd drink with dinner. That's more of a dessert wine. But some people really like it.

i much prefer red over white, but i have found that i am the oddball. almost all my family drinks white only. out of my friends, it's probably half and half.

i have to say though if there was no red to drink i would be fine with a good reisling.

I prefer white. DH's one cousin was thrilled that I joined the family, because he's now got a "pinot buddy". The rest of his [very large] family prefers red. Most of our friends don't drink wine at all (They prefer beer or hard liquor).

This was sort of tough for me to answer - the only wines I really like are Moscato and Reisling, but they are rarely an option at dinner parties, so if it's red vs white I pick red because I can drink red, while I don't like most white wines. I've noticed that the vast majority of my friends prefer red wine, which may be why the white options always suck for me.

Like others said, it may be regional, but to me, red is more popular than white, so I'd probably even it out.

I'll always order white over red since red gives me a headache. I'd say it's probably a 50/50 split among the people I know for red vs. white. But I also know many people who will determine what wine they're drinking by what they're eating -- what food are you serving?

In either case, I don't know how much wine you'd need for your numbers, but I'd guess that you probably don't have enough of the red.
