Wedding cake a go, but can we skip groom's cake?

We're having a budget wedding, but we are doing our best to make sure it doesn't look like it. Our cake will be simple but professionally done.

My groom doesen't even like cake. I know in the South it's a big no-no to skip the groom's cake, but does the same rule apply on the west coast?  I'd love input from all over!

Re: Wedding cake a go, but can we skip groom's cake?

  • I'm not from the west coast but I am pretty sure the groom's cake is completely optional anywhere.

  • I never even heard of a groom's cake until TK.  It's not a necessity.
  • I doubt anyone will even miss it.
  • I've been to only one wedding where they've had one. Skip it! :)

  • Groom's cakes are always optional (even in the South!).

  • The only reason we are doing one is because the only thing FI wanted in this wedding was a Saints cake...it is going to be small though

  • my fi also isnt a big cake person.  so we are going to skip it as well.  i dont think anyone will even notice.
  • I don't know how the grooms cake trend started but I've only noticed it at weddings for the past few years..and not everyone does it. You could still have a "grooms table" if you want to without the cake. It could include his favorite candies/dessert/snacks/etc.

  • Skipping it-- Groom and I each got to choose a flavor for the wedding cake and shared in picking the design, so it's really both of our cake anyhow.
  • He wanted a chocolate wedding cake, while I wanted white cake with strawberry filling.  I got what I wanted, so one of the sheet cakes, to cut for the guests, is chocolate w/choc mousse filling.  That's all the grooms cake he wants!  If you've got Costco where you live, get your sheet cakes from there.  I'm saving over $40 per half sheet.  Yummy and cheap.
