Honeymoon fast approaching, need help finding destination!

Hello. My fiance and I are looking for a location for our honeymoon for the first week of July. We are trying to keep the budget at $4k with east coast airfare. We are looking for something that is not too crowded (with children or other cruise ships stopping by), white sand/clear water (no cruises), and maybe has an excursion or two we can go on.

Looking towards the Caribbean and Bahamas, but want to avoid Jamaica (and Mexico is a toss up). We also do not drink, so I am not sure if an all inclusive will be worth the difference in price? I don't mind paying for it if it is within our budget and gives us a better experience. How much does food at a non all inclusive run anyway?

Thank you all for any and all help you can provide.

  • We don't drink, either, and chose an all-inclusive because we thought it would make things easier. We won't need to leave for anything, etc.  We chose the Riviera Maya in Mexico because the beaches are beautiful, it is safe, and the price is competitive.  We also just Valentin Imperial Maya becaue it is adults-only.  Our trip will be about 3000 total with airfare....we are flying from Texas, though, so you would pay more for airfare.

The Caribbean seems to be more expensive than Mexico, and it was too expensive for our budget.  I have been to the Bahamas and didn't like it, but that might be just me.

  • Next said pretty much exactly what I was going to say. The nice thing about Mexico is that if you stay in the Riviera Maya region it is much more secluded and there are cruise ships that stop in Cancun and Cozumel but that is it. Riviera Maya is gorgeous. Very inexpensive and amazing to visit. THere is a ton to do and it would fit your budget for sure.

If I were you I would play around with booking websites and see what is in your budget and what would appeal to you. For example we did that with AllInclusiveOutlet.com because you can put your departing airport in and your destinations and it will come up with many options. Also you can search by Adults Only and many other options and it is great. I ended up booking through a local travel agent because they got a better deal but it was great to use to do research.

    Good luck!

  • Honestly if you don't drink, I don't know that an AI would be worth it to you.  The plus side is that you don't have to think about where you're going to eat or carrying cash on you.  I really like the Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau.  It's AI, adults only, beautiful beach and water.  They treat you really well and there are a lot of restaurants.  The resort has lots of activities for you to do if you want.  Also, you can take the public bus and go into down town if you'd like.
  • Ditto thet Valentin Imperial Maya in Mexico. The only place I felt weird for not drinking was the party half of the big pool. There are some really great excursions in the area too.
  • I'd check out St.John's, Tortola, St Marteen & Aruba.  While some of them have cruise ports, pick a resort away from the pier & you'll never see those folks.

If you don't drink you will be able to get a much better deal (& probably better food)

    Enjoy.
