Timeline for your day

im having a hard time trying to wrap my head around a timeline. We're getting married in October so I have time, but I'd like a general idea on how to time plan. Any tips, tricks or thoughts?

Re: Timeline for your day

  • My date is in September of 2013. The Knot has a checklist which could give you a general timeframe idea. I would Go ahead and reserve all your bigger things like photographer, DJ, videographer, florist many only do one wedding a day, dress some designers take about 6 months to come in and alterations can take 12wks or so, and your hotel block. I don't know about limos. HTH

  • Yo should start looking for the bigger vendors - venue, photographer, DJ, videographer, now because many will be already booked because 10 months really isn't a long time. Good luck.

Do you mean timeline for planning or timeline for day of?

For planning, I actually didn't book my date (pay deposits) until I had been in contact with my preferred vendors (talked to florist, dj, photographer, pastor, venue etc first and found dates they were all open. Then decided on our date using a date that all were open) I figured there was no point in solidifiying a date, only to fall in love with a vendor and then not be able to use them since they were already booked.

As for the actual day, my timeline could be a bit tight since it is a late-morning wedding and then an afternoon reception. One photographer I contacted was pretty adament about not letting me hire her since I didn't have many hours in between the church and reception. But I don't want my guests to have a long gap. (Which was so strange to me, but hey, not my problem!)

Example for Timeline for day of:

x - 3 or 4 hours: hair and makeup, start to get ready
x - 2 hours: photographer and videographer arrive at my parents' house
x - 1 hour: continue getting ready, all bridesmaids at house (if not there earlier, etc)
x - 1/2 hour: leave for church, even though it is approx 5 minutes from house
    x: church start time
x + 1 hour: end or ceremony, receiving line
x + 2 hours: reception start time (if church and reception are close, and you can take pictures on the grounds of the reception)

  • A lot of your timeline will really center around your photographer and when you are planning to do pics- while getting hair/make-up done, as you put on your dress, are you doing a first look, family pics, bridal party pics, etc.

A lot of your timeline also will depend on where you are getting ready and if you are doing a church ceremony or if you are doing everything at the same place.

If you PM me your email address, I'm happy to send you my timeline to help give you an idea.

Do you have a DOC? She should take care of the timeline.. Are you planning on hiring one? If you aren't maybe you want to have a consultation with a wedding planner or ask for input from all your vendors if you really are having trouble. I know someone that will be willing to help if you are interested.
