Invitation Vent/Update

My invitation lady messaged me yesterday saying my envelopes had been BACKORDERED and I MIGHT have everything next week.

I am LIVID. Seriously, May 20th is THE. ONLY. DAY. that fiance and I are both free to address our invitations so that we can mail them on the 22-23rd-ish (wedding is July 28th).
I finally told said invitation designer that I MUST have everything by May 19th or we seriously won't be able to have time to address them.

She wrote back with a snotty message, saying she doesn't understand why I don't think she is doing her job, since she worked so hard to order special belly bands for us, and she is working to match colors perfectly, and it's MY fault for not communicating that I had "special needs" when it comes to when I need my invitations (she said that since my wedding is July 28th, I just needed to have them 2 months before my wedding).

I AM FURIOUS! I don't know how to respond.  She said she couldn't give me my money back since she has already ordered pieces of our invites.

I can't wait for all of this to be over with so I can rip her a new one on etsy.

  • OMG I'd be furious too! I'm so sorry this is happening! I had a rough go around with an invitation lady and ended up going with someone else.

    Hopefully she will have them to you in time so you can address them on the 20th. If not, is there any way you can drop them off somewhere to be printed? Like a kinkos maybe?

    Or, IN is just a hop, skip, and a jump away, I'll come help! Lol! :)

  • I am sorry that totally sucks!!  Definitely put up a bad review on etsy so other people don't have this problem.  I would flip out if you don't have them in hand by next week!

    Sorry to hear about that!! that sucks!!  can you ask your bridal party for help to address and stuff them??  If you use mail merge you can print the address right on your envelope, it doesn't take that long.  Its pretty easy to follow the steps on word if you haven't done it before.

  • Oh no! Sorry to hear it's still stressing you out! I agree, you need to write her a bad review AFTER you get your invites.

    If you are just waiting on envelopes, is there anyway you can use different envelopes? Is it that the envelopes have a pattern that matches your invites or something?

    I'm so sorry, butterfly!! Could she possibly send you the envelopes early so you can  get a head start on addressing them? And then send the rest of the invitations later?

    Whoops sorry.. just reread your post and noticed the problem is the envelope. Arg sorry.. ignore what I said but GL!!!

    Butterfly, I am SO sorry. I totally understand the invitation person woes. As you know, YOU are the customer and you told her you wanted them by X date. I'm not sure why she's disagreeing with you regarding when you "should" send them or when is "ok" to receive them. What the heck is her problem?

    I would be livid.

    Another etsy gripe: I received the handkerchiefs last night and the text is in HOT PINK. I did not order hot pink; I ordered "rose" pink. I know I'm being a pain in the butt about this, but it's not what I ordered. And now the woman is ignoring me. I am starting to really effing hate etsy. Everything I've ordered has been messed up in some way, despite my VERY SPECIFIC directions. People are just stupid and I can't trust anyone, I'm realizing.

    I would be having a COW! I am so bad with stress, especially when it's time sensitive, god I can't even imagine, I'm SO sorry she's being such a pain in the ass. And I can't BELIEVE that she's trying to say that it's your fault.

  • That really sucks, I'm so sorry. I like Bmore's idea to get different envelopes and address those, but obviously that's not ideal. I'm crossing my fingers hoping for fast shipping!

  • I ams till waiting for my invitations too.  Also an etsy transaction.  My pocketfld color was backordered until June 8th, so I had to pick a new color.  I was crushed, and it pushed the date of receiving my order back.  She is supposed to mail them out on Monday, and I asked her to mail them overnight.  Fingers crossed I will get them next week.

  • Is there a way for you to get different envelopes? Or even just start typing out the addresses (or writing them out) on labels so you can immediately label the envelopes when they arrive? I know it's not ideal but it will work.

    Or can you ask her to address the invitations? Probably not a good idea though.

  • That's crappy. She sounds like a peach. You might try replying to her saying that you appreciate her work on it but when it comes to weddings there are deadlines and that you did order in enough time. Tell her that you would like to give her a positive review but if you don't get the envelopes in time you'll be forced to say some negative things. It mightl put enough fear into her in a nice way to make her figure something out.

  • thanks for the support, ladies. unfortunately, she special ordered the envelopes to match our invites, and they are a very odd shape (our invites are kind of square-like pocketfolds) so I honestly wouldn't know what size to buy.

    I didn't feel like I needed to tell her an exact date since she told me three weeks ago they would be shipping that week. She is making me SO MAD I can't even stand it.

    She said the envelopes were shipping today. i will believe it when I see it. She is shipping the envelopes first, so there really is nothing else I can do at this point....

    I am going to write HIDEOUS reviews for her ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND I CAN'T WAIT TO DO IT
  • I would be livid too. BUT, in all honesty, I would just be nice to her because in the end, all you want in your invitations in your hands. You've already communicated that you want them on a certain date and that you are not happy with her lack of service,etc.. If she's being snotty back, you should probably just back off because you don't want to piss her off even more.  She clearly has organization and communication issues.  But even if your invitations go out a couple weeks later than you planned, you'll still be able to send them out around the 8 week mark.  I know it sucks, but perhaps you and your fiance can tackle addressing them separately if you don't have another time to do them together. 

    I ordered something on etsy once and the Bi**** never shipped the item to me. Luckily it was only worth $10, but I was pissed. I filed a complaint with etsy, as did other customers in the same situation, but etsy couldn't do anything to get our money back. All they could do was shut down her etsy store.  Be nice until you get the invitations, and then rip her a new one with your negative comment.

    Also, not to stress you out more, but our STDs were odd-shaped and we had to pay a sh*tload in postage because they weren't rectangles. Have you ordered your stamps yet? Ours actually took a week to come and they were just the standard Cake 65 cent ones and then the Rose Forever ones.

    I'd do that now so you're not waiting on those.

  • Save all your emails!! & definitely rip her a new one both in an email & on etsy...What a joke...I would tell her I want some of my money back for sure...I would just tell her to forget the envelopes & buy ones yourself....OH! and she should overnight everything to you FREE of charge!!

    I have had pretty good luck on Etsy, but I totally understand what you're saying.

    I did order candy scoops/tongs with colored rhinestones for our candy buffet. I wanted pink, orange, green, and yellow. Ummm the "orange" was totally RED! She's like "sorry, that's all I have"...didn't offer anything, just said they LOOKED orange next to her "red". Whatever...I ordered new rhinestones and have to use some acetone or something to rip off the RED ones. The ones I got are totally orange, so not sure why she had so much trouble with it...

    OP, I'm SO SORRY about your invites! I'm still waiting on my addressed envelopes, and our wedding is the 14th...yea going to be going out slightly later than I wanted, but I had a friend address them (for free), so I can't really complain lol
