How many (non-edible) favors?

As some of you know I am giving mugs as my favors.  If you had a family of 4 (2 parents with 2 kids (over 20) that live at home) would you give them 1 mug?

I invited my BM's fam: 2 parents, sister and sister's bf.  Sister lives at home with parents.  1 mug or 2?

I don't want to seem stingy but these mugs aren't exactly cheap.

  • I would give them 2. 1 for the parents and 1 for the sister. Her bf doesnt need one.

We are running into this with our trading card favors. We are giving 2 per group of guests, with a few expectations of a party of 6 they will get 3

What's your favor?  I don't see why I would give 2 mugs to 1 couple.  I think one mug with our initials and wedding date is enough per couple.

And thanks  LM and Melissa, def. 2 mugs for my BMs fam.  But do you think 2 mugs for my family (MY couisin, her husband and 2 kids who all live in the same house?)

This is what I'm doing. But I had to order mine awhile ago so they'd be here in time so I over ordered. I also wanted them here early enough that if my name was misspelled I would have time to get it fixed.

  • We are doing goats milk soap made by a local vendor. We are doing one per family. It's a little nuts to us to give one to each family member if it's a family of 5.
  • I think what Shiatzi said makes sense...one per invite.  And like you say also BBlouin, there's only so much soap/ mugs a family could possibly need or want.

  • I am doing one per guest but its an edible favor so maybe that is different?  I've never been to a wedding where they didnt do one favor per person though so it wouldnt have occured to me to do it differently.  I get doing one or 2 soaps per family but for mugs I think I would want 2 so they could be a matching set so I would do 2 per invite unless its a single person then I would do 1.
