Reception Venues -- Any Advice? And what about distance?

Okay, I'm getting hitched in Jackson Square, that part we have nailed down for sure!

As for reception venue, I can't decide between the following:

Magnolia Plantation (on Elmwood Pkwy in Metairie),

Courtyard on the Ridge (on Folse St in Harahan),

or

The Rose Garden (on Citrus Blvd in River Ridge).

Now, all three of these are about 10-12 miles from the ceremony location, but I figure, if you wanna come, you'll be there, and I've seen longer distances from ceremony to reception before, at other weddings I've attended.  Also, this way, my guests won't have to pay much in parking fees, besides just the hour or so of the ceremony in Jackson Square.

Anything good or bad about any of these three venues????  I am kind of in love with one of them but I want to make sure first!! :)

Yeah that's the one I love....although it's the most expensive one, and I think probably any one of them would DO....but something just kind of *clicks* about The Rose Garden, y'know?

I'm going to visit all three when I'm in town on the 21st, just to be sure though. :)

Thanks for your respnse, I appreciate it tons!

The only one I've heard of is the Rose Garden and I've heard that it was lovely.

FH and I are having our reception at Magnolia Plantation, and I fell in love with the place and the people there!  Prices were more than reasonable, everything was included.  If it makes you feel any better, my drive is worse than that to get there, but in the end, we just weren't comfortable with paying so much for a place in the city and then asking our guests to pay so much for parking.

    Good luck!

January 7, 2012.  Just less than a year now!  You?

We had originally looked at Southern Oaks--we're from St. Bernard, so it'd be a lot closer, but they got booked on our day.  Then we found Magnolia Plantation and fell in love with it so much more--that 'clicking' feeling you were talking about with the Rose Garden.  :)

I've heard really good things about the Rose Garden, and it's gorgeous!  About the distance--I wouldn't stress.  St. Bernard doesn't have a lot of options for reception halls and we were just uncomfortable asking our guests to pay to park in the city, so we're asking about a 30 min. drive.  Makes me nervous, but when Josh and I thought about and talked with people, most of our guests will be heading back HOME to Metairie.  It's not like we're asking them to drive in a direction they wouldn't have to drive anyway.  Makes the trek seem less horrible since they're ride home is almost done.  That's what I keep telling myself anyway, haha.

How many people are coming to your wedding in Jackson Square?  We are thinking about that location, but not sure how many it can accomodate!

P.S. I'm going to visit The Rose Garden this weekend.

As far as I know, the most they can accomodate in a seated arrangement in Jackson Square is 100.  Now, if you did it as an "open to the public" kind of thing, I think it'll *fit* more...but when you ask for pricing, they tell you it's $250 (with a $100 refundable damage deposit) for 1-25 people, and it's $400 (with a $250 refundable damage deposit) for 26-100 people.

What's your wedding date? lol Don't take mine! :-p JK

Haha, we got engaged on October 9.  It's a good date!!  :D

Our ceremony is at Our Lady of Lourdes down in the parish.  It's been my [huge, loud, and awesome] family's church for generations, so it's kind of special that we have the ceremony there.  Plus we get to mooch off the Christmas decorations.  Woot woot.

I forgot to mention this --  Josh and I were considering making a CD that people can take after the ceremony that guests can listen to during the drive to the reception.  We were thinking about recording some stuff in the beginning, telling people hi, introducing our best man and MOH and joking around a little before playing songs that are important to us.  We thought it might make the drive seem more bearable.  It's possibly a really lame idea, but I thought I'd share!

I am getting information for a wedding in Jackson Square also and from what they have told me they ahve packages for up to 250 i believe. It is broken down 50-100 and then 101-250. I was also told that it may be best to do 100 because the chairs and everything my not fit if more than 100.

    Hope this helps!
