Need help picking reception site

We had our heart set on a saturday night receptionfor 125 in May 2012 but the venue we fell in love with offered us really great discounted rate if we choose to get married on Sept 2 which is the sunday before labor day. Technically most guests will probably not have to work the next day but Im not sure about a Sunday. We also found another location that is 25 dollar less per person that's not as nice but that can accomodate a saturday May 2012 date.

Just a few other things to consider:

Venue #2 - we would need to bring in top shelf liquor and pay $8 per chair extra to change the chairs ( they hv really old ones that we can pay to change to better ones)
Is the 25 per person savings worth a Saturday reception day?

$25 per person for 125 guests that's saving you and your FI over three thousand dollars I would definitely say that it's worth it and you get your saturday what a bonus I would jump at that deal so fast they wouldn't know what hit them :-).You are not always going to get everything thing you want you will have to compromise something and honestly as long as the venue is properly decorated, food is great and service is great that's all that really matters the venue itself doesn't have to be over the top unless that's what you are aiming for. I am having a sunday wedding well at least I hope the date is not booked by the time we decide on which venue we like the most, but if you do decide for the sunday date then most people do try to take the day off so it's usually not that much of a dissapointment. My mom had a sunday wedding and every guest invited showed up. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

I'm getting married the Sunday of Labor Day weekend this year, but the date is Sept. 4th, not 2nd.  Did you mean next year?

I don't know your budget obviously, but if you have lots of people from out of town OR big partiers, a Saturday (or holiday weekend) wedding is pretty essential.  I feel it's too much of an inconvenience for people to go to a wedding if the next day is a workday. If not, then might as well do a Friday night or Sunday daytime to save money.

What are the venues?  I'm surprised Labor Day weekend is so unpopular - we chose it because we got a deal on it too.

Oh and if venue #2 is $25 less per head BUT you have to bring in your own alcohol  PLUS $8 each, I think the price will come out pretty much the same in the end.  Might as well go with either the nicer place or nicer date, as price won't be too different in the end.

We picked the 2nd location. It was less hassle and I really woudl have regretted not choosing it. As far as the holiday weekend we will send a save the date far ahead of the Sept 2,2012 date. :)   While searching,  I found that 3 day weekends go first and some venues charge that Sunday of a 3 day weekend as a Saturday so I feel lucky that we got a deal on a really nice location. Thanks all for your feed back!
