Wedding in 20 days and tips to beat the heat?

Hi Ladies,

For those of you that got married in the summer, I was wondering if you can offer me any tips to make sure I won't look like a big greaseball by the time my reception takes place.

We are doing pictures in the park after the ceremony but both venues are indoor. As I have said before in my other posts my gown is quite warm as it. I just wan't to make sure the wedding party is comfortable and not to have to worry constantly about sweating and looking like a hot mess.

I was thinking of packing a bag with wipes, deodorant, foot spray...anything else?

I was told that Shopper's sells a pharmaceutical grade deodorant. You ask for it from the pharmacist. It can also be used under your feet, under your breasts, and wherever you sweat alot.  I haven't tried it myself. If you have sensitive skin, personally I would test an area ahead of time. Has anyone tried this?

hmmm... My suggestion would be to maybe head over to the July 2011 board or even August 2011 board and see what those girls are doing to prevent it!

We have a couple big industrial (not too loud) fans at the church.

Also, I bought some of the "clinical strength" deodorant - all the major brands sell one noew, Dove, Secret, Lady Speed Stick, etc. that works really well for the in the summer.  It's not OTC though, it was just on the shelf so there might be an even more powerful version out there somewhere.

I am packing baby wipes for cleaning up and powder for makeup.  I am also bringing flip flops since sweaty hot swollen feet in high heels can get uncomfortable.  Other than that, I don't think there's much you can do.... but make sure to wear sunscreen/moisturizer with sunscreen for your pictures if they are outdoors!

We had some personalised water bottles made and a friend brought them in a cooler so that they stayed nice and cool throughout the ceremony.
Also, our programs were fans, so that it kept the guests cool and one was handed to me once the vows and everything had been said to keep me cool too.
A friend of mine had some of those papers that removes excess oil from your face, so once I'd patted my face dry, I was able to use those afterwards.
Hope the weather cools down somewhat for you.

You can get oil free sunscreens or find a moisturizer that already has sunscreen built-in.  As well, a lot of foundations also have sunscreen in them.  Check with your make up artist to see which he/she uses.  Using a foundation primer also helps.

Other than packing the items you've already mentioned, also try baby powder.  That helps to keep things dry - it works under the breasts and all the other places mentioned.

Other than water - buy some hand fans that you and your bridal party can use to fan yourselves inbetween photos.

Oh - I forgot to mention as well - parasols would be great to shade you from the sun and make a good photo prop as well.

</div><div>Honestly, even oil free moisturtizer makes my face oily. I have tried different ways how to use sunscreen with a very light liquid foundation on. I just find that a mattifying primer works the best underneath my makeup and I'm less oilier that way.</div><div>
</div><div>By the way where can I get white parasols...I can probably get one of those hand fans...Chinatown?

Definitely Chinatown!  Not sure where you're located, but you can also check out Pacific Mall - the great thing is that you can negotiate for pricing if you are buying a few of them.

Try an oil free (matte) foundation then with suncreen in it.  I have oily skin as well, so I know what you mean - I use Aveeno with suncreen and I don't have an issue with it under foundation.  But then I also a photo finishing powder so that may help as well.  The one I use is from Make-Up Forever called HD Microfinish Powder.  It is translucent and sets your make up for the day.  It costs $30 and you can get it at Shoppers' or Sephora.  It gives your face a smooth finish, is soft to the touch and a little goes a long way.  I swear by it.

Jewel has covered most of what I was going to say in response... makeup and/or moisturizer with sunscreen in them are the way to go. Are you getting your makeup done professionally?  My MUA is applying moisturizer with sunscreen under my makeup, it is really light and high-quality.

Yes, you should definitely bring water... we are packing a cooler with drinks and some snacks (sandwiches, fruit) and ice packs for during the picture time.

</div><div>I am getting my makeup done. I'm just going to bring my makeup kit with my foundation there just in case my makeup looks really gross after the pictures at the park. I can redo my foundation and not touch my eyemakeup. I don't think I will have time to do this anyway but you never know I might need it.</div><div>
</div><div>Hmm snacks I didnt think of that okay I might have a cooler then..in the limo because we are not going to be eating until after 8 so I will be starving then. I might get one of those snack bars for myself so I don't have to worry about stuff getting stuck between my teeth...lol...

We did pictures outside and it was hot and sunny for part of it - don't forget some sunglasses!  Luckily it was overcast for the majority of the outdoor photos which minimized squinting and sweating.

Your MUA will have moisturizer or primer with SPF, and the makeup quality should be pretty good.  I had no issues with runny makeup or anything like that, despite taking pictures outside with family, just us, and wedding party for about 2 hours total at the beginning of August in the afternoon.  I wouldn't stress too much about it.

The green tea oil absorbing papers from Sephora are magic - I highly recommend grabbing some just in case, a bottle of water, and a parasol in case it gets too hot, and you'll be good to go!
