Engagement session travel question...

I had a specific vision for my engagement photos, which I discussed with my photographer when I booked him. Today, I asked him about scheduling the session, and he said he will only travel within 30 minutes of his urban location. I know of a good site 45 minutes away, and he said it was too far.

Is this typical? I thought that if you paid travel fees, which I said I was willing to do, they would go a little further than 30 minutes. I travel 30 minutes to get to work every day! If I had known this, I would have sought out a more flexible photographer. Unless I'm wrong and most have this restriction? Please let me know your thoughts....

I can see a photographer being a bit more rigid with an engagement session which is very short and pays little compared to an all-day wedding.  That said, you'd like to think 15 minutes isn't that big a deal, especially if you're willing to throw a few extra bucks at him for the time and trouble.  Understandable, but he does seem inflexible.
