Summer Starts...TOMORROW

That's right, ladies.

Summer solstice is tomorrow. Andrew's mother is pagan, so this is an especially important day for her. I was pretty surprised to find out this his mom is pagan. Especially since my mom is very Christian. I think I might be a religious mut. (Do we need a spin off? Have you discovered anything surprising about your SO's parents?)

So back to the topic at hand...

 


What is your FAVORITE part of summer? Is summer your favorite season? If not- what is?

Will you be making anything special for dinner tomorrow to celebrate the official commencement of summer? We're having BBQ chicken. :)

    BF's stepfather (BF never knew his biological father - his stepfather raised him, so he calls him "dad") is a fanatical Born Again Christian. Even though BF's mother was born and raised Jewish, his stepdad converted her. She still believes in some Jewish traditions, but she's pretty into Christianity. I'm 100% Jewish and do not see eye to eye with his parents on most issues. It really bugs me. BUT ANYWAY...

    I do not like the summer. Summer in NYC is sweltering and stinky. I don't even bother to do my hair because I know the second I get outside, it is going to get fizzucked because of humidity. My favorite season is winter.

    Mmmm BBQ chicken... That's so wrong when I'm sitting here waiting for BF to come home so we can make dinner. And that's pretty cool that you have the religious diversity. Is Andrew Pagan too?

    And considering I live in Florida and we have Summer all year long (heck, summer starts for me us in like April lol) I love it all. I have to say what I love the most is going to the beach/pool and the cookouts. It seems like someone in the family is having a BBQ or party virtually every weekend. And the bonfires and midnight margaritas, and flip flops! Ooooh flip flops!! Yeah, I love summer. :-)

    FI's dad thinks kissing before marriage is a terrible terrible TERRIBLE thing.

    FI's parents believe that if you aren't baptized as a baby, you go to hell. It's intense.

    Andrew's mom just said she wants Andrew and I to do a "job finding spell" seperately. Hrm. Can't hurt, right? My mom would have a cow.

    Andrew used to be pagan, but he doesn't really practice anything right now. I want our future children to know about many types of religions- so they can make their own decisions.

    I wish I knew what that decision was.

    So...erm...my favorite part of summer...

    Walking after dinner during a warm evening.

    Summer was my favorite when I was a kid. Now I'm pretty sure my favorite is fall. But I do love having weather that isn't frigid for a month or two in Chicago. My favorite part about summer is that we make excuses to spend time outside and skip working very hard because we don't get to be outside much during the rest of the year. 

    I am not planning anything special tomorrow. I am drooling over bbq chicken now though.

    Yikes! I couldn't handle that. I actually found out about a year in to dating XH that his grandmother was Jehovah Witness, and apparently he was raised that way, but never told me. Kind of hard to listen to all she had to say every single time I saw her when I was raised Catholic.

    I'm Pagan too.  I'm throwing a Litha bondfire tomorrow night for all of my friends, and noon tomorrow I'm going to a small religious ceremony. 

    I like summer but my favorite season is Fall, and my favorite holiday is Samhain.

    Sparrow- is this the right description of your favorite holiday?

    It is considered by most Wiccans to be the most important of the four 'greater Sabbats'. It is generally observed on October 31 in the Northern Hemisphere, starting at sundown. Samhain is considered by some Wiccans as a time to celebrate the lives of those who have passed on, and it often involves paying respect to ancestors, family members, elders of the faith, friends, pets and other loved ones who have died. In some rituals the spirits of the departed are invited to attend the festivities.

    My favorite season is summer.... I spent 13 years in Southwest Florida, and I miss it lol. I don't miss the humidity, but the sun....and the warmth.... I could live in tanks and jeans and flip flops my whole life...and be quite content. 
    I have a karaoke date tomorrow night with my sister. :) We haven't done it in a while, and when I was living at home, we did it every Tuesday. I can't wait....

    Lunar- That's quite an accurate description, I'm a little more Solitary Celtic Pagan than Wiccan, so I also celebrate the changing of the Goddess Gia (Mother Earth) from the Mother to the Crone.  In other words we have reaped what we have sewn and the earth is preparing for the wheel of the year to turn.  For a lot of people it's perceived as a scary time of year, but most Pagans take the Sabbat as an opportunity to see beauty in death and to celebrate the preciousness of life. 

    Can I ask where you found your description?  I always like to hear accurate information from people of different faiths instead of "BURN THE WITCH!!"

    Summer is my absolute favorite season! I despise cold weather, so I'm all about summer. I love wearing sundresses, swimsuits, and flip flops all the time. I love frolicking in the pool and cooking on the grill. My favorite part is that the evenings stay warm after the sun sets. I love walking outside and feeling the warm air without the sun beating down on me. It makes a perfect excuse for nighttime swimming!

    I don't have anything planned for tomorrow, but I'm contemplating going to a two mile race with a local track club. I keep going back and forth on whether I want to go.

    Sometimes I think I know more about paganism then he does...I read a book!
    He doesn't know what a hand fasting ceremony is...LOL.

    But I'll ask his mom tonight at dinner- and if she does- it might be a nice tribute to her spirituality. We'll also need someone to talk about God for my mum. :)

    ETA: Oh- and I've been on that website before. You know me...I'm a total google hoar.

    Summer is my least favorite season...  I do like all the flowers blooming, but that happens in Spring and Fall too. :)

    I haven't found out anything crazy about boyfriend. I did find out when I was 18 that my parents were Mormon though.  (That freaked me out, no offense to Mormons).

    And another thought that popped into my head...

    It would be really neat if the ladies of the NEY that aren't able to attend my future someday make-believe wedding...if they wanted- they could send us a ribbon, which we could use in the ceremony. Wouldn't that be special?

    This group has been so important to me thus far- and I can only imagine that it will continue to be so. I'd love to incorporate NEY ladies into my wedding somehow. :)

    ETA: Or I've though about if people would want to send fabrics for flags/banners- like this:

    I love summer. It was 87 degrees outside today at lunch. I actually got some color just from 30 minutes outside. It's been colder that normal for most of this year, so I'm happy to finally get some warmth.

    I think my only celebrating might be going in the pool. FI is off in Calgary for work, and it's apparently kind of cold and rainy there.

    It's a very touching ceremony.  DK is a good-little-catholic-boy (most of the time) so if he ever gets married it will be in a church, so my hand fasting will not be my actual wedding if I marry him :(

    Apparently they were practicing when they got married.  I found out because my mom made some offhand remark (I have no idea what we were talking about before this statement) about my dad giving up porn when he became a mormon. 

    I have no recollection of them being Mormon (thus the surprise when I was 18). My mom converted to Judaism when I was a young child (me too), and I'm Jewish now.

    I'm not actively pre-planning. This is just the stuff that is still in my head from before I found NEY...

    I'm prefectly content with being happy with my relationship with Andrew as it stands. We need to jump over a few hurdles before getting engaged anyways.

    I don't have time to look at wedding stuff. I'm too busy knotting, working, and looking for employment.

    I love summer, wearing less clothes and not always being so cold.  I love bbq's w/ friends, 4th of july, my bday is in august and going swimming,

    One of my best friends is Pagan. It's a really interesting religion!

    Fall is probably my favorite season. The weather is perfect in my neck of the woods around that time. Hoodies & flip-flops at the same time... makes me a happy girl!  And I live just at the foot of the mountains. The scenery is beautiful that time of the year.
    I don't care for the heat of summer. But, I do love that there is always something to do. Concerts and cookouts... boating and beach trips. yay!
