Honeymoon on a budget HELP!!!

My fiance and I want to go on an awesome honeymoon, but since we are on a budget, we cannot think of a place that would be cheap but awesome! I think we are going to be putting maybe $700 at the most towards it. We were thinking of a 3-5 day cruise possibly, but I wanted to see what everyone else thought.

Your thoughts and comments would be awesome!!! :]]

It really depends on what you like to do.

I've done a 3-day cruise to Ensenada (with friends right after grad school), but it was I think $350 for my half of the crappy inside room, plus I had to go to Long Beach, where the boat left from.  You could certainly get a better deal; this was more expensive because we were all going at the same time, not necessarily when it would be cheapest.

    What about Las Vegas?

I second a cruise... you can find some really great deals out of LA/SD to Mexico... I went on the one to Ensenada and we paid 200 for the cruise (each). I have seen some 5 day cruises to Cabo around $350- 400. You just have to check... also check costcotravel.com - great deals!

Don't know why I forgot this earlier, but I get weekly emails of top deals for Travelzoo.com and Kayak.com.  They both have great deals, generally the last-minute type deals.

I vote against the cruise, but that is because I found out that I don't like cruises: Tiny quarters, being on the ship's time, waiting in line to get off, and being stuck on the ship at sea.

I think if I were to stay semi-local, I would check out a B&B or the like in the Napa Valley. You can easily throw in some wine tasting touring for little cost and depending on the time of the year, beautifull colors.

I also recommend to check Craigslist. You may be able to find a condo or timeshare owner who is stuck with a particular property/time period and is willing to rent at a severe discount, maybe Tahoe? Plus independant living can help you to save money on food.

That is what I did for mine. I found a timeshare owner on CL and am renting a full size condo in Kaua'i for $800 for the week. Obviously, this doesn't include travel. But this same owner had a week for Labor Day in Tahoe and couldn't rent it out or use it and got nothing. Someone like that may be glad to get $400 instead of nothing.

FI and I did that cruise, it was ok but not super exciting because we don't drink and basically everyone on the boat was trashed the whole time.  I also agree the Long Beach departure was a hassle.  In addition, you now need to have passports for Mexico cruises (we barely avoided that before it changed).

FI and I are driving down to Monterey for a weekend of spoiling ourselves rotten with a great B&B called the Jabberwock Inn and eating out, visiting the aquarium, walking on the beach, etc.  Then we're planning to go home and relax together at home with our pets for the rest of the week.  Personally I'd rather blow my HM money on a short but fabulous trip than try to stretch it out for a week and eat at burrito shops because that's all we can afford... I figure we can go for a nice long trip somewhere fun for our 5th, 10th, 205th anniversaries!  :)
