Help, my venue won't let me.....

decorate! They won't let me hang my Chinese lanterns that I wanted or cafe lights or any of those things. They told me that I can only use centerpieces. I can't hang anything from the walls or the ceilings. What else can I do? I was thinking uplights but is that enough? What else is available for me? I don't have enough money for a big centerpiece that makes a statement but I don't want the hall to look too boring either. Please help. Thanks.

    Did you decide not to book with Sweetwater? Hmm.. the first thing that comes to mind is maybe have some gobo designs that will show up on the ceiling and walls? I know my DJ said he could do a leaf pattern on the ceiling and walls for us since our theme is spring/trees/leaves/love birds.. He said the the pattern would show up from floor to ceiling and really has a nice wow factor when guests first enter the room.

    How about incorporating the lanterns into your center peices?  I saw a really cute DIY site that showed you how to make table numbers from paper lanterns (the numbers were actually cut into the lantern so you get a nice background glow). HTH!

    Our venue doesn't allow things to be hung from walls either, that was fine with us. As long as tables are decorated with chair sashes and linen along with centerpieces we are happy. Can you add to the centerpieces, maybe add 2 candles on each side or personalized rose petals ?

    Hi Amy, no I did go with SWCC but Deanna said that I can't do anything from the walls or ceilings. How are you decorating? Congrats. I know your wedding is coming up. Mine's in July.

    It is common for Venues to not allow things to be hung from the walls or cielings.  I am not allowed to do that at my venue.  Go back to the venue... take pictures... and look around the interent for DIY ideas.  Also, sometimes, less is more...

    party lights hung by command(trademark) hangers that won't hurt surfaces.  this may help give an outdoor feel.  may not be what you want but using command band adhesive hangers could be a winner.
