Catholic Ceremony Musicians

Hi all!

My fiance and I have been pulling our hair out searching for ceremony musicians for our Labor Day weekend wedding. The organist that was recommended by the Church (Christ the King) quoted us $325! NOT including vocals. We are not having a full mass so in total we need a musician(s) for 20 or so minutes - 3 songs MAX. I'd love to hear from anyone who has been in the same boat or has hired a Cape based organist and vocalist. The few that I have found online play classical music only and are not familiar with Church music. Eeek!

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance!

IMO, I don't think $325 is a bad price.  I paid $375 for a string duet - but it was for a full mass (1.5 hours) and included travel to Cape Cod.  Feel free to ask them for a quote - it may be less than $325 as it would be less time (her name is Rose Wollman and her website is http://rosewollman.com).  But if you have your heart set on an organist, I'm not sure what to tell you.  If I remember correctly, our church (Our Lade of the Cape) quoted us around $350 for the organist...  you may consider an iPod ceremony to save $$.  GL!

The organist at St. Patrick's quoted us $300, I think, for a wedding, mass or not. So I think that's pretty standard. I'm looking into getting a string group instead, but with an organist who is familiar with the church it would be easier.

Since your wedding is Labor Day weekend, I would do everything you can to get someone local, whoever it is. You don't want to not have music because the musician is stuck in traffic!

You could try gigmasters, but to be honest, that quote is the lowest I was getting anyway.

I was married at Christ the King in May.  I actually used a family friend for the organ but had to get "permission" from the music director to have someone from outside the Church play...it wasn't an issue but I didnt realize the people listed on Christ the King wanted $325...they wont give you a reduced rate since you are not having a full mass? Did you ask if they would negotiate?  That is a lot of money...feel free to message me regarding Christ the King..I was surprised with some of the attitude I encountered there starting with my rehearsal.....
