I'm watching Rachel Ray and they are featuring Yummy Cupcakes- Cupcakes in a jar.

I know cake in a jar is a hit with our SOs and deployed servicemembers. I haven't looked at pricing but thought this was a nice addition to our list.

    Mason jars aren't that expensive!  They sell them at Costco and Sam's Club and Walmart and some grocery stores.

    That's  good idea, though - making cupcakes, slicing them and layering with the frosting.  So pretty!

    If you tried to DIY, would they still stay good when you shipped them? I've never done cake in a jar before, but I thought the idea was that baking in the jar was what helped it stay fresh, and with these you'd need to get in there and cut the cake into slices and such....

    Sarah - I think you can still heat seal them after they're baked.  Just like canning anything else, it's all about removing bacteria and extra air.  I'd just follow normal canning directions.  Most other things you can are cooked or baked outside of the can!
