I don't have kids, but my mom does have a different last name than me. She got married when I was young and took his last name. I never had a problem with it. All of my sisters and brothers have the same last name, but it never bothered me. Ask your daughter how she feels about it.

I had that issue growing up, didnt bother me much but it was weird at times, for example my friends calling my stepdad Mr. "MyLastName", instead of his...lol

Don't know the relationship your FI and daughter has, but another option is him adopting her...and then you both could change last names to his.

fortunately my FI and daughter have a wonderful relationship....we are truly a "blended" family....he came into my life when she was 4 and i cam e into his life when his twins were 3.....we all live together and she even calls him daddy.... her own father hasnt been in her life since she was 1 but still has visitation rights and wont let FI adopt her Frown. i guess i will just have to talk to her and see what she would like to do.....

I have a dif last name from my mom and my son has a dif last name from me.  I don't think that having the same name is the biggest deal in the world but I think you should definitely ask your daughter how she feels about it.

That was one of the reasons I decided to hyphenate my name. My son has my maiden name and I didn't want him to feel left out. He had expressed to me before we were married that he would not feel like part of the family with a different last name. My son actually wants me to hyphenate his name too, so we have been exploring the adoption idea since my DH has raised my son like his own.

You should definitely talk to your daughter to see how she feels about the name.

I will have a different last name then my kids either way because when I got divorced I changed my name back to my maiden name and my kids have their dad's last name. It will be no big deal to me to change my name.  I can't wait to change it!

I'm divorced and took back my maiden name and my daughter has her father's name.  I will take FI's name in a couple of months.  It's never been a big deal for us.

After my divorce I kept my ex's name for the kids. I'm going to hyphenate it once we tie the knot. Adoption is out of the question unfortunately though FI has been around 5+ years.

My daughters have always had a different lastname then myself so I took on my husbands last name with no problem.
