I haven't shared this over here because, well, it's a crazy, embarrasing, and emotional story. I feel like David's often gets a bad rep though, and I want to share how they're helping us out.
One week ago my mother in law and sister in law both had a mental break down. They started planning a wedding for my sister in law, who isn't even dating anyone and hasn't in years. They planned to the point where they reserved a venue and purchased clothing.
On Sunday they went on this weird joyriding thing and ended up in a high speed chase with the police. They were caught and arrested and at that point all the weirdness came to light.
In the process of planning the wedding that was never going to happen, they purchased a gown, veil, tiara, shoes, bra, slip, purse, and jewelry for SIL to wear. They also purchased a bridesmaid's gown for my other SIL and a gown, shoes, purse and jewelry for their grandmother. It ended up being about $2000 worth of merchandise and my MIL opened a David's Bridal credit card and put it all on there.
After everything came to light we decided to see if we could return the things to DB. DB has a strict no returns policy, so we had to call corporate. Within one day we had permission to return everything and the manager at corporate said she would make sure we only dealt with the original person we spoke to at the store level about it so as to keep the questions to a minimum. That person then called me to set up an appointment for the return.
Throughout the whole process they've been incredibly kind, compassionate, and sympathetic. They didn't have to help us, especially since we've been unable to get any documentation stating MIL was operating under a mental illness, but they helped us immediately without hesitation. Obviously it doesn't make the whole thing better, but it's certainly lifted a $2000 weight off the family.
