Just Engaged and Proposals

What was one of the best things that you got?

Hi All-

I'm a former Knottie but one of my best friends just got engaged last weekend and I'm looking to get her a Christmas gift that ties into being newly engaged.  Unfortunately, I can't remember anything that people got when they were newly engaged and loved from when I was wedding planning.

I'm trying to stay away from wedding binders/planners, etc as I'm sure she will just go pick that up herself.  So is there anything you received that you think other another bride-to-be would like (maybe unique or different)?

Thanks!

  • A lot of people have ring holders that they use to put their ring on at night or while doing the dishes and love them.

  • I got like 5 picture frames. I guess my friends are unoriginal.

  • What about a t-shirt/hoodie/etc. that says "Future Mrs. Jones" (or whatever her last name will be)?
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • How into Christmas ornaments is she? There is a ton of cute engagement ornaments.

  • Unfortunately they do not put up a tree due to the size of their apartment and pets. I'm not sure if it would change once they bought a house but they would have no use for an ornament. A ring holder might be good, I know she used to take off her other rings sometimes when she does stuff in the kitchen. I want to get something she would actually get use out of... I did the whole monogrammed sweatshirt and hanger at my wedding but for a Christmas gift I want something more practical since the sweatshirt/hanger would be something I could do as a surprise gift or a bridal shower gift.

I didnt get (but wanted) ring cleaner so I could keep my ring as sparkly as the day I first got it. I also got a ring dish, picture frames and a wedding planning book. What about a nice bottle of champagne to celebrate?

  • My aunt bought us a wedding planner that was cool, but we already had one so that idea is a little risky for that reason.

Honestly? The best gift we got was from a friend that gave us a living social certificate for a wine tasting for two. She handed us that and a coupel bottles of her favorite wine. She laughed and said, "things are going to get stressful, so you'll need this.. but only if you promise to NOT talk about wedding stuff while drinking these wines or going on the wine tasting... You will appreciate the break from wedding stress"

It was so sweet. I will do the same to my next friend to get engaged. :]

I like the idea of wine or champagne. It's a bit close to Christmas, but would you be able to get personalized wine glasses/champagne flutes? I think that'd be cute.

    I found these on Etsy:

  • Oh! Good call, L&J!
If you don't want to go personalized (I'm not  a fan of personalized stuff, myself)
Tiffany&Co Champagne flutes would also be a SUPER sweet choice! They are only 15 dollars a glass so just a 30 buck gift that they would keep FOREVER. :]
  • What about a gift card to a nice restaurant so the couple can go out and celebrate their engagement?

  • I'm surprised by this thread.  I don't think we really received any tangible engagement gifts!   (But then, I'm not really a gifts person, and I guess my friends know that.)

We had friends make us dinner or take us out to a meal to celebrate.

I live over 600 miles away from her so making dinner or taking her out to celebrate isn't really an option right now.  She is coming to visit next month, so we'll probably go celebrate then but I still wanted to do something.

Thanks everyone, you've given me some great options to consider!

  • Get her something practical, like a gift card to Bed Bath and Beyond or somewhere she might buy household items.  They will be spending a lot on the wedding, and personally, I'd rather have practical gifts right now than keepsakes.
