Now that the big day is done - what to do with that big white dress?

I don't plan to preserve it.  If I try to sell it do I have to clean it?  I cleaned it before I wore it for my wedding and that cost me over $200 so I would rather not do that again just to sell it and then break even.  Obviously I don't want to throw it away and yet there's really no need to keep it.

What do you do with your dress after the day?

In this economy I am betting there is someone out there who could use it.

**Please note** I am not trying to sell my gown here.  I just really don't know what I should do with it next and am looking for input.

You could do a photo shoot, not necessarily a Trash the Dress session, but you could get some cool pics that might get your dress dirty.  If you're into the photo thing.

Or you could find a place to donate it.  Maybe a woman's shelter, or local agency.

Hm, actually I do have a friend who took some really great engagement photos and she was talking about doing a Trash the Dress session.  Maybe I could do that and then donate it.  I wasn't as happy as I had hoped I would be with my hair and makeup for my wedding, so this could be my chance to get some photos with those things the way I would like.

I also thought about donating it to an opera company in case they need something for a Lucia di Lammermoor or some other opera where the soprano gets married.  :-)

But seriously, in this economy, it would be nice if it could go to someone who really needs it.  I'll just keep my eyes peeled.

I used mine to make two christening outfits- a girl and a boy outfit.  My daughter looked beautiful in her handmade christening gown made out of her mommy's wedding dress that she married her daddy in :)

I plan on giving it to my grandma to recycle. my grandma made a beautiful basinet cover with her dress. I am gonna let her be creative and make a christening dress, a dolls dress and an album cover and whatever else she can think of

I sold mine on ebay, my kids are grown and I didn't want to keep it. But I love the christening and bassinet ideas!

There are a lot of places you can donate your dress to so other brides can buy it for less, since it's used.  There's I think it's called Brides against Breast Cancer or something like that.

You could also just give it away.  My friend got her wedding dress for free- just had to pay for shipping from Australia.  She's planning on paying it forward and giving it away after her wedding.
