Married ladies--changing your name

Did you get a call or something from Cook County letting you know that they received your marriage license back? Tomorrow is 2 weeks from the wedding so I'm wondering how long it all takes to get back and be processed.
also, what order did you do stuff in? I've heard SS office first then DMV.
kinda anxious to get this ball rolling! :)

I got mine back about 2 weeks after the wedding date (but that was DuPage county)

I went to SS office first, then to the DMV then I did all my student loans, credit cards, banks, and then my passport.
It's time. Adoption saving and process started in November 2012.

Yeah, I didn't get a call or anything. I just went on the County Clerks' site to order a copy of the license. Then you just have to wait for it to come--it took maybe a week?

Ditto, I did SS first, then DMV, then banks, etc. I'm still not done w/my credit cards or my passport, opps. Or my vendor reviews for that matter. HA!

I'm different about the license since I wasn't married here.  Our license was mailed to us.

Then yep, SS office (don't going during lunch hours, bad idea! I've always heard midwk is best).  Then DMV

I was married in Cook County....they told us 4 weeks, but I went in 3 weeks after our wedding and it had been processed a week after our wedding. You are probably good to go. I just went into the County Clerks office and got 2. One to take all over to change your name and then one for safe keeping. Then yes...the SS office first, then DMV, then bank. The banks will also need a copy of your marriage license.

We had ours back about a week after we got back from our 10 day honeymoon in Cook County. I actually went to the DMV last week. I still haven't done SS. That's this week. The DMV didn't care that I had my old SS card since I had the marriage cert.

I'm holding off on my passport and keeping it with my old name. We have a couple of trips in Sept and Oct and with the mess with the government and all that jazz I don't want to risk not having it back. It's been mentioned that if the debt ceiling "stuff" doesn't get squared away it's possilble that the Dept of State (who handles passports) could experience larger than normal delays

    Good luck!

I got married July 9 and got the marriage certificate July 18. They printed it on the spot. I went to the express DMV first because it's right across the street, then to SS, then bank, ccs, etc. Don't forget you can update your voter registration when you do your DL!
